Which Michigan State defender worries you the most?

Actually I should have picked Pat Narduzzi.  He is very good at what he does.

And he'll whine constantly post game once Ohio State wins

If we execute, I'm not worried about our offense against the MSU defense. Sure they'll slow us down a bit - so what's that 4 punts?

Oyster's picture

The thing that worries me is them slowing OSU down with a turnover on a short field.  That makes things even in regards to the two offenses.  The way they put pressure on the QB results in more than a few errant passes each game.

You're right, We Can NOT turn the ball over like Nebraska did!!

I chose other.  It's an 11-way tie for first and last place.

I chose other for that reason and because I couldn't pick any of the guys out of a lineup.  While MSU is clearly the 2nd best team in the B1G right now, I just don't have enough hate to watch their games each Saturday (like I do with TTUN, for example).

I said Bullough because Dantonio has made it very clear that they are going to try to force Miller to beat them through the air.  Our O-Line is the best group in the country and they have spent most of the year getting to the 2nd level with no trouble.  I think it's going to be a lot more difficult this week to get to the LB's, and it's going to be a major dog fight inside.

That's exactly why I said Dennard. They will force him to throw, so the most dangerous defender will be Dennard.

Dennard is a fabulous defender and was an easy choice for me.  We must have a passing game here Saturday.

I voted for the guy with the goofy first name.

I voted Dennard because we have already put up points on a defense that had Chris Borland in the middle of it. We also put up points on Iowa's defense. We are yet to see DBs like this though.

Another "other" vote here. There is no individual match up with MSU that worries me. The strength of their defense is in their collective execution of their schemes. Everyone knows where he should be and what he should do. They react fast, and are hard to stretch out of position.

I went with Shilique b/c he might give Decker some trouble when they matchup, but I have faith in Taylor as he's come a long way since Buffalo.
Dennard would be another choice since he is a lockdown corner. I didn't realize how high he is on some mock draft boards. The WRs are gonna face a lot of press man coverage. Thankfully, Urb and Herm are working on some plays to exploit that as I type this.

i picked other because of the cheap shots we've seen in the past, such as the late hit on brax early in the game last year that sent him flying into what ever solid thing it was on the sideline.

I agree with you KC.  MSU is known around the league as the dirtiest team.  I'm looking for late hits and extracurriculars in piles.  Hopefully the refs will be on high alert and keep an eye on these things.

Dennard is the biggest threat. Calhoun and Denicos Allen will be sack threats, but Braxton is often able to wriggle out of trouble, so pass-rushers aren't as dangerous. But if the MSU corners can jam our WR's and Braxton can't throw them open, then it will be 8 men in the box all day. Hyde won't be stopped, but he might end up with 3-4 YPC instead of 6-7. I look forward to some of the plays where Braxton fakes the WR screen and hits someone on the post instead.

Drew Sharp. Check out this shameless article on MSU's db's vs OSU's WR:

Actually, how about we don't? That's just feeding the troll.

Because, other than Drew's BS, it does point out that officiating could ultimately decide the direction this matchup.  And it points out that Notre Dame defeated MSU on extended series because of calls made against MSU's DB's.  So it is somewhat relevant to the poll, not feeding into someone just bashing the Buckeyes.

Other. Their defense as a whole is good. Don't fool yourselves...This will be a hard fought game - the good guys need a good game.

I voted Denard, just for the fact he is a lock down corner, and also there was no choice for all 11.

This defense is too undersized to handle Hyde and our O-line, Braxton is bigger than Allen for pete sake!

yrro's picture

It's a tough pick between their LB and CB.
If we can beat them up the middle, I'm not worried about their cornerbacks. We won't need to take too many risky shots deep.
If we can't, then I'm really worried about their cornerbacks.

My hope is that the offense doesn't turn the ball over and that the secondary doesn't blow any coverages. If these things don't happen, I love OSU's chances.

El Guapo is going to go for over a hundred on the ground and so is Braxton (two 1,000 yard rushers in one season!!). That means the only way we lose this game is if Dennard gets a couple of picks and gives a mediocre Sparty O good field position.
