In the Orange Bowl, if Ohio State scores 45, will they win?

There is some ungodly statistic floating around out there that if Ohio State scores 35, they're 230 something - 0 - 1.

Keep in mind that MSU D is WAAAAAY better than Clemsons D, everyone.  Lets not make Clemson out to be Florida St. or anything here.  They lost two games for a reason. All OSU needs to do in that game is keep running Hyde! Same with MSU game.  If they keep running Hyde OSU wins.  But they started passing and doing those stupid QB drawls all the time on third down. Driving me and everyone else crazy!!! Go Bucks!!

Let's not forget that we spotted a good team 17 points.... That didn't have much to do with our offense.

The only thing that's new in the world is the history that we have forgotten.

2013 stats say OSU is 9-0 when scoring 35 or more.

Class of 2010.

@BucksFan - OSU is 285 - 0 - 1 when scoring 35 points or more in a game.
Damn - should have scrolled down further before replying. Sorry!

285-0-1 GO BUCKS!

I wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then.

There it is.

What is this "IF"? We average 46 points per game, and Clemson is just average defending the run.

buckeyedude's picture

I voted "yes," but was looking for the "maybe" vote.
I hope this senior class can win out on a good note.

You forgot to check the slide rule...........  The southern teams slide right on by....cause they know if they score more they win........ and the hell with defense

I was going to say the same thing, but you beat me to it.

I guess it really depends on.....
Are we going to have the same D coaches for the game?
To be fair our offensive play calling against MSU was pretty.... offensive too.

I'm pretty worried.  We just gave up 41 to a crap team from up north that hadn't done anything in a month and 34 to their big brothers, who aren't known for offense.  I realize one was a rivalry game and one was (hopefully) a hangover, but Tahj Boyd scares me with our secondary performing how they are.

rkylet83's picture

I voted no.  I think we're going to have to score at least 50.  We haven't faced a true elite receiver yet, and Sammy Watkins is a future NFL standout.  Clemson will sling ball all over.  I think we can and will score more than 50.

The same statements made for AGAINST MSU..........

What a shame this is even a question.

00Buck's picture

NO  tOSU will lose because with the current defensive scheme CLEMSON SCORES 63    In my book this number IS larger than 45

Clemson doubles what MSU puts up on us. We double what we put up on MSU.
Clemson 68 US 48. That's the way I see it. Just because I am realistic about our secondary doesn't mean I have turned my back on this team. I hate looking at this game in a defeated manner. Just looking at the positives and negatives for each team, this is a practical prediction. The only way to win this game is to make stops on Defense and score almost every single drive with a run game that eats up the clock.

Can I have the under, please?

Give our boys a month to prepare and I like our chances against anyone -- even with our defensive woes.  Besides, I think that Urban's going to raise all hell to fix the soft zones that have been plaguing us the past two seasons.
Our offense will be able to stay on the field much, much longer than they did against MSU; and it will be the difference.  When the offense is unable to string together consistent drives, the defense gets more and more tired.

Brandon26841's picture

Maybe? Clemson is definitely the best offense the team will have faced all year and they're going to put up points on the board. I swear I'm not just being pessimistic but 45 really might not be enough.

ScarletGray43157's picture

Yes, if the defense is coached up with an open mind to replacing the guys who have stunk it up with others guys.  Three weeks would be long enough to coach up replacements.

In old Ohio there's a team that's known throughout the land...

RedStorm45's picture

Gave up 31 PPG the last 4 games (and two in pretty poor conditions) to teams with an average rank of 45 in scoring offense in the FBS.  Clemson ranks in the top 15.  Assuming we play the same crap soft zone, I could see Clemson hanging 45+ on us.

Boxley's picture

Clemson ranks in the top 15 in scoring, but they play in the No defense ACC. What did they score against FSU? 3?
If we are going to use rankings, we score in the top 5-6, defend in the top 10-12. not our pass D of course, we really do not like that number.
But it is all conjecture at this point. We have four weeks to right the ship on D

RedStorm45's picture

Well, we don't really play defense so they should hit their average.

USMC11917's picture

What can we do in 4 weeks that we haven't done in two years. Supposedly our pass defense has gotten worse but our defensive line has improved. (Not that that matters because we just got called for another pass interference)

hoping our defense pulls a michigan offense this month...pu-pu-pu-please?

I think we will be able to run the ball against them and limit their time and possessions and simply not giving them enough touches to score that much.

Good lord, Clemson is not going to put up 45 points.

Class of 2010.

RedStorm45's picture

Did you watch our defense get thrashed the last 4 weeks?  Clemson will put up points.

Brandon26841's picture

I'll believe Clemson will put up less than 45 points when I see it actually happen.

ShowThemOhiosHere's picture

Yeah, 30-some maybe...not 45.

Class of 2010.

Possession battle. If we win that it keep our offense on the field longer and more importantly, theirs off the field, I think we win.

Let's ask our defensive coordinator ...
"It is what it is. To hold a team under 45 guys still have to make plays. We scored 46. Did we win?"

Roby vs Watkins . Time to live up to the All American status.

Yeah we will win 45-44.  Tahj boyd and Braxton Miller are going to look like gods amongst men in that game.
