PHONE'S RINGING -- IT'S URBAN ON THE LINE
I choose other. I'm not sure if this goes under the fact that we have the 63 ranked total defense but the fact that Penn State goes for it on 4th down a lot has me concerned. I'm not sure if our defense will be able to contain them every single time but it can ware on our team mentally and physically.
Insert witty remark
Toss up between the 63rd ranked defense and playing in Creepy Valley, but had to go with the defense.
If OSU can play decent defense, like they did against MSU and PU, I like our chances.
Two blondes were driving to Disneyland. The sign said: Disneyland Left... So they started crying and headed home.
LOL @ McGloin's moxie!!!
I chose our defense because Bill O'brien worries me -- if only because I'm not sure what he is capable of. He has a proven track record of being a solid OC and is very well-respected by fellow coaches for his offensive acumen. Penn St has been decent, not exceptional by any means, but I wonder if the guy who has turned McGloin into a serviceable QB is going to find some ways to exploit the weaknesses in our defense.
I chose our defense, because I believe PSU's offense has more talent (even with preseason transfers) than Indiana's.
Is a 5:30 kickoff really a night game? More like a late afternoon or evening game I would say.
We should strive to keep thy name, of fair repute and spotless fame...
(Also, I'm not a dude)
Well, the sun will be set by 6:30 or so, and they'll probably have to use the lights at kickoff- it's pretty close to a night game.
I don't mind getting nitpicked but I guess my thought was 'dark outside' is essentially a 'night' game but whether it's described as late afternoon, evening, supper time, or whatever, I think we can agree it'll be a hostile environment and that was really my intent for that particular poll answer.
Are you sure you are using the quotes correctly? I would think that no "quotes" were necessary, but if you must use them, wouldn't double quotes be preferable to single?
Ha! Double quotes are probably preferable but I don't have to hit the Shift Key to use just the one quote thingy. Let's just call it a text version of Casual Friday.
Oh, and what's up with your renegade italics usage?
Sarcasm font. Didn't want you to think I actually cared about the grammar (or actually expected an explanation of your usage). Just a little over the top nitpicking.
Well played. Nothing wrong with a heavy dose of sarcasm. It gets me through most of my work days.
My intention wasn't to nitpick your poll because I completely understand why you called it a night game. I'm actually glad it's a earlier than an 8p kickoff. I recently read where somewhere said that college football is at its best under the lights and I completely agree. But if the earlier kickoff keeps the PSU crowd at 90% rather than 100% crazy, I'm ok with that.
Also, I love that you added McGloin's moxie as an option.
No worries. I was just being sarcastic and explaining my logic all at once.
Braxton going down has to be the biggest. I don't care if we lose a meaningless game in Happy Valley to the walking zombie that is PSU's football team. I just want to beat Michigan in a month and a hobbled #5 would seriously put that in jeopardy.

I voted on Braxton too. His health has the largest implications beyond this individual game.
No worries at all. Let's roll into Western PA and kick some Nittany Lion tail.
I voted McGloin's moxie. But I don't actually fear the moxie I just loved the answer.
btw, thank you to the former Buckeye that got the ball rollin' on that one. Fake-ass Buckeye, indeed! ;)
McGloin is to Moxie as Denard is to Tied Shoes
Definitely how well or how poorly the D plays. I expect the McGroin to be able to move the ball. Can we stop them a la the MSU game? Or are we pourous like some earlier season contests against similar style QB's?
We will score some points.
Our D plays well.

"It's just another case of there you are". ~ Doc (1918-2012)
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^I'd say at least two every offensive series for PSU...easily that many...or some form of a screen pass. Or take one out of Purdue's play book and attack under our LB coverage in the flats or on under/circle passes. That seemed to work...on the first play of the game last week.

I'm worried about everything all the time. Having said that, objectively speaking we ought to be OK.
First off, we came fairly close to beating the Nits a year ago, when we were deeply dysfuctional.
Second, their current hot streak hasn't exactly come against the cream of the B1G.
Third, if we're losing for any length of time, I'll have to listen while whoever the commentators are extol Penn State as a feel-good story, and my resulting homicidal spree really won't benefit anybody.

I voted "It's a Night Game at Happy Valley" mostly because I feel like anything could go wrong. Both sides of the ball have had their down games. I do trust the staff to have the players prepared, but the players must execute. Braxton has to make some of those throws he seemed to miss against Purdue. The Defense has to play another solid game and not allow big plays, and the staff needs to make the necessary adjustments.
Has to be the atmosphere there. They have confidence coming in that their better than i think they really are, and that can do magic for some teams. hopefully we set the tone on both sides of the ball let em know the buckeyes mean business
I like football
I mean I voted for their 63rd ranked defense but I hear it is suppose to rain and that should help the D out a little.
No, that just means that the Defense will be slipping as they chase down plays from behind...
35 hours to Pasadena! Go Bucks!
No worries. We got these guys. Penn State has shut down bad offenses and has yet to see an offense with two legit homerun hitters in Smith and Miller and a bull dozer like the Handsome one.
4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
I think it's a giant stretch to call both of those guys "legit homerun hitters". Brown rarely makes deep catches, has trouble making anyone miss out of the backfield or the bubble screens, and has lacked consistency.
Smith, while capable of getting separation some of the time, drops more big throws than he catches.
Smith can still stretch the field better than anyone PSU has yet to see. That's my point.
It's real easy to play 8 in the box\downhill when you have little concern about people getting behind you. Illinois, Iowa, even Nerdwestern couldn't force PSU to worry about big plays. OSU can break off bigger runs and passes than anyone they've seen.
And wait-I said Miller and Smith. Miller is the biggest homerun hitter in the nation in my humble opinion.
Smith just needs to catch the ball and Braxton needs to make accurate throws. If he does that, PSU will have to respect the pass more, and our Offense will be a lot tougher to defend.
I voted Defense. I'm hoping they play well and cause turnovers. McMoxie needs to throw a couple of TD passes to Roby or Shazier. Get up on them early and then set the tempo.
"Say my name."
D scares me the most, although if they play as well as they did last Saturday (minus the opening play) then that should be good enough for the win.

Depends on how you interpret the question - what issue would potentially worry me most SHOULD the worst-case scenario occur, or which one of these issues is most LIKELY to occur?
I voted Brax going down b/c that would be by far the most devastating thing that could happen to us.
But our Defense not showing up worries me as the most Likely bad scenario to happen.
I think Shazier plays extra motivated wearing his friends number.
I voted night game AT happy valley. Shades of Pryors fumble still haunt me.
~Because we couldn't go for three~
Pryor fumbled at home. :(
makes smacking them off of their high horse the year after so much better. how priceless was those shots on state penn students at the end of the 3rd quarter?
I chose the defensive ranking because it's by far our biggest concern against PSU. Their offense is better than many had expected and many say McGloin (who I love to refer to as McLovin) isn't very good. Well he picked apart a pretty good defense in 2010 all to blow it in the second half. He also beat us well last year...this is virtually the same defense with injuries to boot. I'm worried about McLovin picking our defense apart with short passes and making just enough plays to win. However, I do remember that second half in 2010 and his interceptions from trying to force passes because of pressure. This year he's got 14 TDs and only 2 picks...I'd say it's time to add some more ints to those stats;-) If the defense steps up we win bc our offense will feed off it or vice versa. This crowd could be up to 106K or more...take em out of by making our own big plays will be crucial. Pray before going to bed so our dreams for OSU's defense turn out like Roby's dads' dream. Go BUCKS!
I voted no worries but then I got to thinking about the last few games. The refs in these games have been extremely poor at officiating. I'm hoping this isn't the case today or even better we get so far out in front the officials don't become part of the game.
The harder you work, the harder it is to surrender. - Woody Hayes
The problem on offense is the same as always. It will be one dimensional unless Miller hits his passes or Guiton plays and passe on first down every time. If there isn't any balance on offene, they struggle.
