Well so much for that season high goal total. The Buckeye women set a new high-water mark for 2016-17 with a 6-0 victory over Penn State, one-upping yesterday’s five goal explosion. The 11 scores tallied by Ohio State skaters in the sweep is also a season best series output.

Penn State 0 0 0 0

Early in today’s tilt, however, there was little indication of the forthcoming Buckeye beatdown. The Nittany Lions kept the visitors off the scoreboard for nearly half the game. They particularly pressed OSU in the first period, outshooting the Bucks 8-4.

But goaltender Kassidy Sauve was once again a rock in net for Ohio State. The red-shirt sophomore denied each of PSU’s tries in the first period. The Nittany Lions couldn’t get anything past her in the second or third periods either. The scarlet and gray wall stopped 26 shots to earn her sixth shutout of the season.

3 7:33 Jessica Dunne (unassisted)
3 11:28 Breanne Grant (Lauren Spring, Dani Sadek)

Midway through the contest the Buckeye offense gained traction and took off. Freshman Sam Bouley started the scoring with what turned out to be the game winner. Maddy Field netted her second of the series.

The Bucks kept pouring on the offense in the final frame. Dani Sadek scored one for the beleaguered Buckeye power play. Jessica Dunne stretched OSU’s lead to 4-0. Breanne Grant chipped in her first goal of the season. Jincy Dunne found the back of the net for the second time in as many games.

With today’s win Ohio State improves to 10-10-2 on the season. This was a sensational start to the second half of the season for the Buckeyes. Associate head coach Jess Koizumi was thrilled with her team’s performance:

“Our offensive production is something we have focused on in practice and it was great to see goals from every line including our defensemen. Sauve was also fantastic all weekend with two shutouts.  This was such a complete weekend for us to start our second half, I’m very proud of this group.”

The Bucks are back in Columbus next week. They're back to their conference schedule too. Bemidji State visits the OSU Ice Rink for a Friday-Saturday series. Games are currently scheduled for 6pm ET and 3pm ET starts, respectively.
