J.T. Barrett knows exactly how Ohio State fans felt after the whipping the Buckeyes took at the hands of Clemson in the Fiesta Bowl. The Tigers roasted Ohio State 31-0 in the College Football Playoff and went on to win the national championship.

“I think sometimes we get set in our ways but change is also a good thing. Change is not always bad,” Ohio State's quarterback said on Sunday after getting recognized for winning Big Ten Quarterback of the Year and also winning a share of the Silver Football. “I think it was needed.”

The change came in the form of Ohio State's offensive coaching staff. Urban Meyer moved quickly to bring in fresh blood, adding former Indiana head coach Kevin Wilson as his offensive coordinator in place of Ed Warinner and Ryan Day as quarterbacks coach for the departed Tim Beck. Warinner left to join P.J. Fleck's new staff at Minnesota while Beck is now in Texas working for Tom Herman and the Longhorns.

“I mean, when you think back in 2013, on the defensive side of the ball we were struggling, and changes were made there. Now look at our defense, you know what I'm saying?” Barrett said. “So it's one of those things just trying to keep things new and fresh.”

The moves came about in the hope of the Buckeyes avoiding another embarrassing offensive output on a national stage. The game against Clemson was the first time in Meyer's 15-year career his team failed to score a point.

“Lot of things that we slipped up on at the end,” running back Mike Weber said. “We’re going to work on that and keep that taste in our mouth and work hard for next season.”
