Ohio State added another top talent to the country's top-ranked 2017 recruiting class today as Powell, Ohio's Brendon White has committed to the Buckeyes.

  • Class: 2017
  • Size: 6-2/195
  • Pos: ATH
  • School: Liberty (Olentangy, OH)

  • Composite Rank: 22 (S)

The country's 22nd-ranked safety, White was offered by Ohio State following a late September visit to campus where he watched the Buckeyes take on Western Michigan. He's the son of former Buckeye defensive back William White, who helped create the legacy of the "Silver Bullets" before playing 11 seasons of NFL football.

Although White "only" has seven offers at this point, he added opportunities from Michigan State and Notre Dame in a three-week stretch and those offers may have helped him with the Buckeyes. Ohio State had been actively pursuing White, but had not yet entirely sorted out exactly what role he'd play in college: he could be a defensive back, a linebacker or even a wide receiver in college. He's got big frame, quick feet and a solid base to build on and has told Eleven Warriors in the past that he feels Ohio State could see him as a Darron Lee-type of walkout linebacker. At this point, White is still learning how to play any number of positions, but his versatility has caught the eye of the Buckeyes and today he's fulfilled a life-long dream. Luke Fickell has been the primary recruiter for White.

In July, White pulled no punches about where his heart was and all it would take was a Buckeye offer to seal his future.

"I'm hearing from Ohio State and I've been there for a visit," he added. "I'm also hearing from Michigan State and Indiana. If I get the offer from Ohio State, I will commit there. It's my dream school, and I want to follow in my dad's footsteps."

The 11th commitment in the Buckeyes' 2017 class, White is another top flight defensive talent in a long line being collected by Urban Meyer's staff. Fellow 2017 pledge Isaiah Pryor could also line up at linebacker alongside White.

Eleven Warriors will have more on Brendon White's commitment soon.
