You might've missed it when it happened at 8:00 p.m. on the Fourth of July, but that is the night that Colorado 2017 offensive lineman Jake Moretti decided to commit to Ohio State.

"Committing that night was just kind of a possibility," Moretti told Eleven Warriors."It just kind of ended up happening. It's a huge weight off my shoulders."

Why it happened for Moretti, the country's 70th-ranked prospect in the 2017 class, was just as simple, just as understated. In reality, he had no plans to end his recruitment so early but being at Ohio State for a one-day camp with the Buckeyes answered all of his questions.

"I was trying to stay level-headed and thinking of all the pros and cons but it just felt right walking away from the campus," Moretti said. "I wasn't too sure what it'd be like out there, but the city of Columbus was pretty unique with all the support. It just felt like a great overall fit. It wasn't just one thing that stood out."

The chance to work one-on-one with Ed Warinner was a highlight of the trip for Moretti. The Buckeyes offered the 6-foot-5, 285-pounder in late April based solely on film they'd watched.

"Honestly I'm not to sure what it was (that made them offer)," the Pomona High School star said. "We didn't talk about it too much. It was good to work with Coach Warinner in person. I felt like I got a good feel for his coaching-style and I was pretty receptive to what he was trying to teach also. I'll take the little things here and there in my technique back to my high school team."

Moretti says football has always been a part of his future.

"I've been playing football since I've been six or seven-year-old so it's always been important to me," Moretti said. "Colorado State was my first offer, heading into my sophomore year. I've just always enjoyed watching all aspects of the game and seeing what the special or Hall of Fame caliber players do to succeed."

One way Moretti plans to succeed at Ohio State is by getting closer to his future teammates. The Buckeyes' 2017 recruiting class is currently ranked as the country's best and they're working hard to keep everyone on board.

"We've all been getting to know each other," Moretti said of the 2017 group. "Getting to know all the guys, and we've got a big group message going. I'm looking forward to my next trip to Columbus."

Until then, Moretti is working on his game and preparing for his junior year. He knows that as an Ohio State commitment he's going to have a target on his back.

"I'm just focusing on getting better," Moretti concluded. "I need to work on pretty much everything; speed, strength, flexibility and so forth. I pride myself on my motor, so I will keep working."
