Thad Matta's men's basketball staff grew by two names Wednesday.

Ohio State's head coach officially announced the hire of former Buckeyes assistant and Charlotte head coach Alan Major to director of recruiting and player development. CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein first reported the hire Monday.

"Alan has many skills and talents above and beyond those he’s utilized as a coach over the years," Matta said in a press release. "I want him to help us develop a complete and well-rounded student-athlete. Alan is the perfect fit for this position."

According to the press release, among Major's responsibilities in his new position will be to coordinate a plan for each player to "maximize their potential as a basketball player, student and human being." Major will assist in recruiting activities, arranging officials visits, hosting prospects and their parents, updating recruiting boards and providing daily recruiting updates to the coaching staff.

Major served as an assistant under Matta when Ohio State hired the latter in 2004. The two coached together at Xavier the three years prior. In his first six-year stint in Columbus, the Buckeyes went 156-54 and Major led recruiting efforts to land stars Greg Oden, Mike Conley, Daequan Cook, Byron Mullens, Kosta Koufos and Evan Turner.

Additionally, Matta named Kyle Davis as the program's video coordinator, replacing Jake Diebler, who left to become an assistant coach at Vanderbilt in April.

Davis served as a manager for the basketball team from 2010-14 as an undergraduate student, then again last season while in graduate school. He graduated from Ohio State with a degree in sports industry in 2013 and then completed his master's program in sport management in 2015.
