Aaron Craft Named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year

Aaron Craft has been named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year by conference coaches.

This is the second such honor for Craft, who is a three-time All-American and was also last year's Big Ten Tournament MVP. He is only the second player in Big Ten history (other than Purdue's Chris Kramer) to earn a spot on the All-Defensive team four times.

Craft was also named to the second All-Big Ten team by media and third All-Big Ten team by coaches.

Congrats to Aaron Craft, and to other Big Ten coaches outside of Columbus, who will undoubtedly be thankful to see him leave college after this year.

Great job by Craft! IMO should be three time winner.

Agree. He should have won it over Oladipo from Indiana.

Look closely, because the closer you think you are, the less you will actually see.

I'd love to see how close this voting is - does anyone else register with him at the top this year?

6'2" and will graduate B1G All-Time leader in thefts and a 2-time Defensive POY.  Sometimes in life it's all about heart.   With a leader like that it's easy to still feel something special could happen with this team over next few weeks.  Go Bucks

I'm not sure there is another player past or present who has had me so engaged in the game as Craft does. Seriously, the play at the end of the game Sunday when dove to snatch the rebound from Payne, I jumped up and was screaming and pumping fists just like Craft.

We're going to miss this guy more than we know. He just brings intensity, focus, work ethic, the whole damn kitchen sink and then some and it's real special to watch and I'm damn proud he is a buckeye.

We should all send Bruce Pearl some BBQ sauce and a thank you card. :)

He is a fun dude to watch. Pity the NBA doesn't care about defense.

...and _ichigan still sucks.

The NBA absolutely cares about defense, just not when played by 6'2" dudes who can't shoot whatsoever.

Also a lot harder to play defense against a mutant like LeBron James.

Congrats Aaron. GO BUCKS!

I wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then.

A special kid and a TRUE student athlete.  Deserves all of his accolades, and none of the vitriol directed his way.  Doing things the right way and with total conviction and effort is what he is all about.

Also worth mentioning:

- three time first team Academic All-America selection (only 4th B1G player ever)
- repeat as Division I Men's Basketball Academic All-America Team Member of the Year (3rd Div1 player ever)

Congrats to Aaron. Can't believe he wasn't first team all B1G.

Congratulations to Aaron Craft!  IMO, he should have at least been a two-time Defensive PoY.  As mentioned above, that dive to the floor in the last minute captures who Aaron Craft is as a player...selfless, driven, and a winner.

I've thoroughly enjoyed watching Aaron Craft play and hate seeing his career end.  I'm sure that he'll go out in style.  Go Bucks!

Chuck Norris tried to blow out the candles on his birthday cake today, Aaron Craft stole them before he even had a chance.

Thanks for a great career, Mr. Craft. Let's go win a few more before it's over.

Why does Dublin have so many round-abouts? Because everyone in Dublin thinks they have the right-of-way.

Nice GIF there Huber - never seen it before. AC - is a which defensively and it's no wonder other teams loathe him and the way he plays the game. Any business would do well to hire him if he changes his mind about the medical field.

How he hasn't won this award more than twice is beyond comprehension. Well-deserved. Craft only winning it twice is kinda like Borland being named Best LB over Shazier, numbers and film be damned.

Not seeing him in a Buckeye uniform next year is going to be quite an adjustment. Or will we see him? :)

Maybe they'll institute a Craft Rule. The media can vote to give one player a year a fifth year of eligibility.

Yes!   Totally deserved.

I know there's a game Saturday, and my ass will be there.

I think some coaches (looking at you, Tom Izzo) are very salty and embarrassed that Craft not only destroys their teams but also their game plans. How else could Craft only be third team in the coaches vote?

brandonbauer87's picture

I think Izzo wanted to punch Craft on Sunday. The tension was palpable.
