Indians outfielder Abraham Almonte has been suspended for 80 games because of a violation of MLB's drug policy. Almonte was scheduled to be the Indians' opening day centerfielder.
Almonte has been suspended for testing positive for Boldenone, an anabolic steroid. An 80-game suspension means this is Almonte’s first violation of the drug policy.
“We were disappointed to learn of the suspension of Abraham Almonte,” read an Indians’ statement. “We fully support Major League Baseball’s policy and its efforts to eliminate performance-enhancing drugs from our game.”
