Anyone else pulling for Chile to knock their dominant neighbors out of the tournament?

Good matchups today.

Too bad Uruguay has been bitten by suspension.

Chile is sneaky good but Brazil is too tough an out at home.

I like Colombia too (the artificial energy side but I'm talking about the soccer squad here).

Looks to be an exciting game, both teams holding nothing back.  And Chile looks more than capable of putting the pressure on.  One of my good friends is Chilean and his wife is Brazilian.  He is down there now with his wife's family.  Things could get messy with the in-laws if Chile pulls off some history.

This tourney is so exciting - so looking forward to a few upsets this week!

Anyone else think that was an own goal??

The first man gets the ((((Oyster)))), the second man gets the shell.

Couldn't tell even after the replays

Didn't look like it would have gone in without the Chilean player's help, but I do think Luiz got a bit of a deflection to finish it off.

I think it was an own goal.

Watching Brazil play just makes me think what we would look like if all we did was play soccer. Imagine the speed we could put on the pitch.

Mac..yeah

Yep Neymar just runs by people.  Imagine Westbrook, Iverson, Chris Johnson.

Our best athletes are playing other professional sports

Yeah thats my point.

Mac..yeah

MacG91's picture

My athlete team if these players grew up only playing soccer. Starting XI using the same formation as the USMNT coming into this World Cup.

                                                    Calvin Johnson

                                      Patrick Willis                Richard Sherman

Russell Westbrook                                                                                Joe Hayden

                                                         Lebron James

Tavon Austin                                                                                          John Wall

                                                           Chris Paul

                           Colin Kaepernick

                                                                         Adrian Peterson

Im pretty sure we would never lose a game.

Mac..yeah

That is one very unique line up but not quite sure Kap. would be starting - too many mistakes under pressure

+1 HS
MacG91's picture

Yeah i had a hard time picking a forward, need someone fast, good vision and pretty strong also helps that he is tall (for a soccer player).

Mac..yeah

Seattle Linga's picture

Patrick Peterson would be a nice replacement. Something tells me Jozy and the Deuce need to be on the team. Jimmy Howard is probably irreplaceable.

+2 HS
MacG91's picture

Yeah Jozy is a good player but his athletic ability is no where close to some of our top athletes, he has average speed but he is strong. I agree with Howard, he's probably the one player I would think that has a chance to keep his job. Top 3 goalie in the World easily.

Mac..yeah

I've heard some say that NEUER from Germany is the best in the game today.

+1 HS
MacG91's picture

Yeah  Neuer is great, I think Casillias from Spain, Ochoa from Mexico, Buffon from Italy, Lloris from France and Belgium's goalie along with Howard would all be in the discussion.

Mac..yeah

cw823's picture

lol you obviously didn't watch Spain's first game.

MacG91's picture

One game doesn't define a Goalie.

Mac..yeah

I'd have to throw Ashton Eaton on there (the decathlete).  Some of his PRs:

100m: 10.21

400m: 45.64

Javelin: 218 ft.

High Jump: 6'10"

Long Jump: 27'0"

HouseHarleyBuilt's picture

I feel like Lebron would be one hell of a goalkeeper.

MacG91's picture

Yeah Lebron would be great anywhere, but I put him at the defensive mid position so he can roam the pitch and kinda play wherever.

Mac..yeah

JohnnyKozmo's picture

Or Megatron.  I think it was this past year on a MNF game when they put him in a 12'x12' garage and from a standing position he could reach everything.

jeremytwoface's picture

Uh oh.... Tie game.

The first man gets the ((((Oyster)))), the second man gets the shell.

Come on Chile, one more goal.

Boy, its clear that:
1. Neymar is the most talented guy out there.
2. He's also the biggest (sissy).

Chile's pace is giving Brazil's defense fits...

Brazil is out-playing Chile, but Chile could be leading 2-1.

I really enjoy watching all the South American countries energetically belt out their national anthems, players and fans alike.  The U.S. players barely move their lips if they do anything at all (though I really like putting a hand on the shoulder of the guy in front of you). I guess it's a cultural thing but if I get this excited listening to thousands sing songs which I don't understand, imagine how it would be if we could manage the same response to the Star-Spangled Banner.

Correct and if they play this way I believe they will beat Brazil

+2 HS
Groveport Heisman's picture

Hah yeah the whole squad has done well indeed I was thinking of James Rodriguez. Kid has  like 5 goals in 4 matches. I seriously think Columbia could end Brazil if they can keep the intensity level cranked.

I guess, one could say, that Uruguay's attack lost its bite.  Womp womp.
