Just a thought that has been bubbling up for a while now and probably spilling over now due to post-game emotions.
The last few seasons on offense (and special teams), Day seems to prefer elevating assistants from within to fill coaching vacancies vs. looking nationwide for talent.
- OC/QB coach Mike Yurcich >> Senior QC analyst Corey Dennis promoted to QB coach
- STC/DB coach Matt Barnes >> QC Parker Fleming promoted to ST coordinator
- OC/TE Kevin Wilson >> QC Keenan Bailey promoted to TE coach
Justin Frye is the only recent hire that came from outside the program, and he was a relatively big hire - OL/OC under Chip Kelly at UCLA (former Big Ten player/captain that knows the conference).
I get that there was success with promoting Brian Hartline from within, but the strategy of an internal person being the best hire vs. a nationwide search seems to be a high-risk/low-reward approach.
Better yet, can we find rising coaches that understand the magnitude of the rivalry as well (coaches with connections to Ohio-Michigan or the B1G region)?
