I don’t know what you do to mitigate the stress of Hate week but it is real if you are a dedicated fan.
First of all I can’t imagine the stress on our student athletes. If I’m feeling it with really no skin in the game, so to speak, it materially has to have a tremendous effect on the athletes.
One mechanism I try to employ is compartmentalization. I spent years in the Marines and during that period lost several friends at too young of an age. No one is going to lose a life in the game, hopefully.
I tell myself it’s just a game, but it seems much more than that.
It occurring Thanksgiving week helps because of the distractions that offers. Spending time with family or friends takes the mind off the game momentarily.
Still I find myself losing sleep and stressed.
