I am hoping someone can help clarify something from the game last weekend.
Just before halftime, Sparty punted the ball to OSU and snapped the ball for the punt with 1:59 left on the clock. There was a five-yard penalty on MSU player "0" for stepping out of bounds and re-entering the field of play. They repeated fourth down and kicked again. This time the snap was at 1:48 left in the half.
Why was the clock not reset back to 1:59?
Thankfully the Bucks scored before the end of the half, but were they potentially put in a tough spot with 11 seconds gone? If this was the correct call, couldn't this be a strategic move by a kicking team to chew up time? I don't think that OSU had an option to decline the penalty, but I may be wrong.
TIA for any insight.
