To me this is simple... I will never forget Doug Flutie's one lucky throw* catapulting him to the Heisman when Keith Byers was the best college football player in 1984 from start to finish. (I was actually at the Illinois game when he literally ran out of his shoe. That might have actually been my first Buckeye game at 13-years old)
* to be fair, Flutie had a good year, but that Hail Mary clip went viral before going viral was a thing. It was on every sports clip show and everywhere. (They even parodied it on Saturday Night Live.)
** Wow. I pulled the stats. That year Bernie Kosar finished fourth in the voting and had a similar, arguably better, year.
Flutie: 3454 yards, 27 TD, 11 INT.
Kosar: 3,642 yards, 25 TD, 16 INT
Some scrub named Jerry Rice was #9. What ever happened to that guy?
