So, it's clear this is another year where OSU and Michigan are likely the class of the B1G.  But, the B1G East does have MSU AND PSU lurking?

What about the B1G West?  Who's lurking?  Hello? Anybody?

  • No Offense Category
    • Iowa - To be renamed Iwa as they don't deserve their O.  They've scored 1 TD and 1 FG in 2 games against so-so competition.  The defense has as many scores (2 Safeties).
      • 150 TOTAL yards on offense against Iowa St.  They gave up 320 to SouthEast Missouri St a week prior.
  • No Defense Category
    • Nebraska - before yesterday, the Cornhuskers were 214-0 when scoring 35+ at home.  Now they're 214-1.
      • It was one of them 'defense optional games.'  Georgia Southern gashed Morgan St. for 504 yards in week 1.  642 yards and 45 points against Nebraska in week 2.
  • Underwhelming Category
    • Northwestern - yay, you hold a close win over Nebraska (join the club, membership is booming).
      • Just lost to Duke (3-9 in 2021) while favored by 10.  Duke: ACC's Rutgers.
    • Wisconsin - Where's that power running game?  Lost 17-14 to Washington St.
      • Washington St. were 17 point underdogs and beat Idaho 24-17 in week 1.  Yes, they're the PAC-10's Rutgers.
  • Yet to be tested Category
    • Minnesota: not sure how good they'll be.
      • 2-0 against against Western Illinois (0-2, lost to Tenn Martin in week 1) and New Mexico St. (0-2, lost to UTEP in week 1).
      • They've done well and dominated.  So, there's that.
  • Good, Except lost to Indiana Category
    • Illinois - destroyed Wyoming 38-6 and dominated UVA 24-0.
      • Yet, they LOST to Indiana.  Their first conference win since that weird 2020 year.
  • Best in B1G West?
    • Purdue?
      • They dominated Indiana State (insert joke here).  And, only lost to PSU (a respectable team) by 4.  The PSU loss was close and could've gone any way.

So there you have it: 5 crap teams, an untested Minnesota, and a capable Purdue.  The B1G title game will be a formality for the B1G East winner.  We all know what match-up determines that.

The last time a team in this division won the B1G Championship: Wiconsin 2011 first year of an actual title game and 2012 when they finished 3rd in own division behind ineligible OSU/PSU.
Before that, Wisconsin in 2010 shared with Michigan State (OSU vacated).
And before that, Iowa in 2002 (shared with National Champs OSU).
20 years, 20 opportunities.  4 titles, and two outright, and one of the 'outrights' was a 3rd place team.  None in 9 seasons.  Wow.
