We were up by only 6 pts vs Bama. Deep in our own endzone, Johnston punts. The ball takes a horrible bounce, literally FLYING backwards towards the Bama red zone. Just when it looked like the ball would end up inside the five or beyond, Jeff Heuermann makes a great catch to stop the ball at the OSU 23. Watch the replay. The punt was at 10:03 in the 4th Q. Everyone... and I mean everyone... had outrun the ball... there was nobody back there to down that punt. Heuermann made a GREAT stop. If he doesn't make that stop, it would have been at the very best first and goal... at worst it might have went into the endzone for a potential Bama TD. Since Heuermann stopped it at the 23, the field was opened up with just enough real estate to tempt Kiffin into trying a pass. Which of course, was picked by Vonn Bell.
Had Heuermann not stopped that ball when he did, Bama would have had a first and goal which would have been a heavy dose of Derrick Henry, or perhaps a damned near unguardable slant to Cooper.
Here's the play at 10:03 in the 4th, or 15:22 on the youtube timer:
