Apologies to those who read this last night before it went to Blog Heaven.

Barrett had the best freshman season in Ohio State history.

Barrett had the best freshman season in Ohio State history.

We all know that J.T. Barrett became Ohio State's starting quarterback when Braxton Miller unexpectedly re-injured his shoulder shortly before the start of the season. How did the red-shirt freshman respond after not taking a live snap in almost two years? Barrett finished the season with third most passing yards in Ohio State history. Not too shabby.

What you may not know is that Barrett set the single season record by throwing 34 touchdown passes and was on pace to break Ohio State's single season passing record before he broke his leg. Below you will find the ten best passing seasons in Ohio State history.

Ohio State's Single Season Passing Leaders
Rank Player Passing Yards Touchdowns Year
1 Joe Germaine 3,330 25 1998
2 Bobby Hoying 3,269 29 1995
3 J.T. Barrett 2,834 34 2014
4 Art Schlichter 2,551 17 1981
5 Troy Smith 2,542 30 2006
6 Todd Boeckman 2,379 25 2007
7 Bobby Hoying 2,335 19 1994
8 Steve Bellisari 2,319 19 2000
9 Jim Karsatos 2,311 19 1985
10 Troy Smith 2,282 16 2005

Germaine threw for a school record 3,330 yards in 1998.

JOE COOL
Joe Germaine split time at quarterback with Stanley Jackson during the 1996 and 1997 seasons. When Germaine took every snap at quarterback during the '98 season he proceeded to complete 230 of 384 passes and set a school record by throwing for 3,330 yards.

TWO AT 3,000
In the storied history of Ohio State football the 3,000 yard passing mark has only been surpassed twice. As stated above, Joe Germaine did it in 1998 and Bobby Hoying threw for 3,269 in 1995. I will not be surprised if another quarterback joins Germaine and Hoying in the 3,000 yard club in 2015.
