Miles has gathered some information on this, as have I, and they were identical.
We're hearing Mitchell to OSU really does have some legs.
Our sources are saying Mitchell has been mentioning that he may commit to Ohio State.
He lists a Top 3 right now of Texas A&M, Florida State, and Ohio State.

when there is smoke...there is usually..
Has Mitchell visited OSU?
No
Let's hope this is true. Kid is a stud at LB and would totally take the sting away of losing Anzalone and Smith.
Get him to come to FNL and seal the deal.
I don't know the timeframe but the way I perceived the message was it might not take that long.
I LOVE RECRUITING NEWS DAYS LIKE TODAY!
Sorry. ...fireworks & beer aftershock.
When does football season start again?
Interesting addition, scouts are saying Mitchell will grow out of LB and into DE. Sounds like Urban may have found his VIPER
And his brother is Mikey Mitchell. One of 2015's best bball players in Texas.
great to get some surprise news like this but lets not all jump all over this just quite yet
Ohio State is in about 50x better shape with Mitchell than I thought they were when I woke up this morning... And that might be an understatement
Their young kids still so nothing is imminent, but I like OSU's chances at this point.
this dude reminds of the Big Kat ... the D-Line, the LBs, the DBs -- it's an unbelievable collection of talent. I'd be surprised if anybody scores more than 17 points in a game against the Bucks, in the next few years. I hope we add this guy to the fold.

I live near Plano. I could pay him a visit.

That's a joke. nobody freak out.

I live at the Boyd County Detention Center in KY. I could pay all our recruits visits... when they let me out.
Would be a really nice get for the Buckeyes.
im watching the opening on espnu...they said mitchell says hes gonna commit within the week, and if he had to commit now..he knows the school he would commit to...
not a direct quote but pretty much...
Mike backer I think
SEC style defense here we come!!!
No, it'll now be known as Ohio State defense, here we come.
Mitchell is tearing up the SPARQ competition right now. Will probably win it.
Agreed our defense has rivaled and surpassed SEC defenses for several years prior to last. No need to refer to the Silver Bullets as an SEC defense because we have our own standard to live up to.
@RDUBS: I don't think we have had a defense like Alabama and LSU had last year since 2002...we have had some great defenses but I am talking about defenses which opposing coaches and players FEAR.
This kid is an absolute FREAK! 6'3 and just put up a 4.46 Forty. And yeah hes def. Gonna win this thing.
Follow me @jaythesportsguy
Just won it...
wow...4.39 40 yard dash
Holy mother of god. He just ran a 4.39.
And Pantoni tweets "speed kills!"
4.39 40!!! WOW!!!

OMG ARE YOU WATCHING THIS!? HE JUST RAN A 4.39!
Follow me @jaythesportsguy
He set the SPARQ record (he had a 154 reported). By eight points.
http://www.nike.com/nikeos/p/usnikefootball_mobile/en_US/combine_leaderboard
I'm gonna say it right now. This guy is better than Anzalone. Maybe the decommitment of Anzalone was a blessing and wasn't such a bad thing?
ME LIKEY!!!!
Capn, Make It So...
I agree. As far as pure athleticism, it isn't even close.
Can I get a grey box soon?! ...please & thank you!!! Lol
His nickname: the abusement park. Best nickname ever
Fundamentals are a crutch for the talentless.
He may have 30 offers before its midnight in Oregon. Kid just lit up that combine anyone have any tape on him?
Do want! He seems like a good kid too.
Two updates from Mike Farrell. FWIW!!

FWIW..... Rivals already had Mitchell rated higher than Anzalone & McCray. (And this was before his ridiculous numbers at The Opening)
OLB Rival ranking
5 Mitchell
7 Anzalone
9 McCray
Get on the Train Mitch!! Kid has the frame to be a rush end by his Jr or Sr year.
This kid will be better than Anzalone and McCray, and could maybe even end up being better than Jaylon Smith. That may be a stretch, but holy mother of breastmilk, this kid is an animal.
I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.
Also hearing that his dad is booking a ticket as well.
Things are looking up for the good guys.
I thought I knew all the big time recruits, i must have somehow overlooked The Abusement Park lol that is a stellar nickname especially since Ohio is home to the greatest amusement park in the world. a sign perhaps? :)
I'll get excited when he commits. To many locks have gone elsewhere lately.

(buying my ticket for the Abusement Park)
can't wait to see what Walt puts on a t-shirt if he ends up with the good guys
Is Mitchell in the Cushing mold?
@JUV I hope not, I'd hate to find out Mitchell was juiced
he's not juiced
Capn, Make It So...
Mitchell? haha I get that, was making a joke about BC's steroid use
I was completely ignorant about Mitchell. Just looking at his profile and reading about his performance at the opening; seems like a fair comparison. He is being recruited as an OLB?
I mentioned earlier that I think he could develop into the VIPER position that Lewis Neal/Tyquan Lewis had been talked about playing. He projects to a DE in many scouts' opinions, and I think he would be a monster hybrid player. He personally wants to play OLB though, yes.
Forgive me if this has already been posted. That being said, it's worth watching twice. Absolute FREAK! Speed for his size is ridiculous!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jVCjFOzktdI&feature=youtube_gdata_player
I've seen several tweets today they say he could play mike.
Reminds me of "Bobby Boucher" the way he runs all over the field chasing dudes LOL
Somebody has to give up # 9. Mike likes "Foosball"
If he were to commit, wonder what that means for Tyquan Lewis. He's probably on the outside looking in, with our limited schollies left.
@hayze: at one point we had Lewis Neal and Alex Anzalone committed. These two just fill those spots.
With five or so spots left, I think they take two WRs, Tyquan, Mitchell, and an OL. Just my 2 cents.
Also, another spot will open up...I don't see Storm Klien being on the team much longer.
EDIT: Just saw this as well:
Just might be room for 2 more LBs in this class when all is said and done. Bring him on board
i think Mitchell is a Buckeye
@URBZ - A spot will be saved for Bell, especially if we make his top 3...
It's great if we get Mitchell. But has he even been on campus yet?
Yeah, I think you take Bell/Hargreaves/Foster no matter what.
@Hayze... Storm is a senior, so him getting kicked off the team would have no affect on the scholership #'s for '13
The staff wants two LBers, end of story, they have been saying that from day 1. Issue is that Lewis and Lee are both tweeners. So even though they are both LBers, they are not every down LBers (imo). Mitchell is. So I can see the staff taking the three. I am starting to think we don't add any more OL. First two WRs out of Gibson, Foster, Quick, Allen, and Stringfellow and a utility spot (Bell or can be used on Green/Mizell/Williams/ect). This class could get to 21, so add in Bell and a utility spot.
Cause I couldn't go for three
I could be way off, but I don't think we take Lewis if we get Mitchell. We got Darron Lee, remember? I think that, if Mitchell commits, we wait to see what Bell does before we decide if we'll take Lewis.
I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.
I really think Lee is either a safety or a STAR, not a LB. If anything at LB he's a major project, never has played it before.
Mitchell has not been to campus yet. I think he very well could commit and then make the visit (Baugh still hasn't been to campus), although he may just wait until within the week when he does come up to make the decision.
The Tyquan Lewis scenario is interesting. We would be at 15 with approx 5 spots left. You have to leave one for Bell, one for an OL, two for WRs so that is four. Then with the last spot do you take a Derrick Green or go a Viper with Lewis? Of course we may end up with 21-22 spots so it could be a moot point but we shall see.
The Opening is currently "re-airing" on espnu.
This guy blowing up at the camps and combines will vault him to a 5 star when all is said and done. I've been saying along other recruits are going to come up this summer and next season. This is a guy, that before today, was not on Ohio State fans' radar and at the end of the day he is probably going to be the best LB recruit Ohio State could of landed, even with Anzalone.
@BTALBERT 2 things:
1. He won't be a 5 star based on this, but could see a bump.
2. Jaylon Smith is better than any high school linebacker I've ever seen
yeah but at what point was Jaylon ever really a serious possibility for Ohio State? It never seemed like the kid really was interested in coming here. Obviously, I don't think one work out will bump him up there, but a freakish workout there, if he takes part in any other camps this summer and has a big senior year he'll have a chance to get up there. Sounds like athletically the kid is as good as it gets, he may just not be as polished as Smith. I'll take that raw talent, who knows, could have a higher ceiling when all is said and done.
Jaylon and Mitchell are both unbelievable athletes. Jaylon is probably the better football player at this point. Be happy we are likely getting one of them...
Animal, freak, monster, beast. Whatever you want to call this kid - I hope will be able to call him a Buckeye soon.
The world is full of kings & queens who'll blind your eyes & steal your dreams - it's heaven & hell - Ronnie James Dio.
One can only wonder if Anzalone is referring to Mitchell's success tonight at The Opening. This is hilarious....Tim May of the Dispatch retweeted Anzalone tonight.
Anzalone : "There's a difference between combine kings and good football players #Realtalk"
LOL. Haterade
Hahahaha. That is so hilarious.
I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.
Well if Anzalone ever comes to the 'Shoe as an opponent, at least fans can get inside his head and throw him off his game.
Demetrius mcghee @meechmcghee
@AlexAnzalone_24 Thanks so much Alex for decommiting from OSU mike Mitchell is a much better prospect can't thank you enough
I think this is what Anzalone was responding to.
Stupid Osu fans just can't leave the kid alone......
Favorite Buckeye: Obviously BJ Mullens
Just how stupid are some of our fans?? 1) Talking shit to a 17 year old kid. 2) Bragging about a player that hasn't even committed yet, one who we only really learned of earlier today.
I'm a proud OSU fan and always will be but stuff like this(tweeting recruits) is flat out embarrassing.
It's embarrassing for us, but let's be honest here, recruits get hate tweets all the time. The smart ones never respond to it.
I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.
True...I just cant wrap my head around what can cause a grown man to send hate filled tweets a kid.
Anzalone has also retweeted responses from sane OSU fans as well. He even wished Pantoni a happy anniversary the other day. I don't think he has any ill wil towards OSU, it just wasn't the right fit for him.
Demetrius mcghee @meechmcghee
Screw this dude. I hope he isn't really an OSU fan. I am embarrassed to call him brother.
I don't always take names when I kick ass but when I do, they most often belong to a Wolverine.
Pretty much all of that guy's tweets are to recruits. That's not good, right?
I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.
Also, Anzalone and Mitchell got drafted onto the same 7-on-7 team today... Just thought that was worth noting.
EDIT: Elliott and Green are on the same team as well. Preview of things to come?
I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.
I could see Mitchell moving down to the DE spot and becoming a freak like Simon. Imagine him and Joey Bosa tearing it up....
Because I couldn't go for three. -Woody-
Elliott is a MONSTER, he has been underrated for a long time, glad to see him getting some notice, cant wait for him to be a buckeye... I'll believe this Mitchell thing when I see it become official, now that Storm Klein is the latest OSU player to be, allegedly, a complete and utter waste of space
This might be a bit of a stretch on my part, but I don't think Anzalone is too excited to be Mitchell's teammate after what happened today.
The 7-on-7 team that Anzalone and Mitchell are on is the Field Generals. Anzalone tweeted "FIELD GENERALS BABY!!!" Then this happened between Anzalone and Ryan Switzer. Could just be smack talk between the two of them, or maybe Anzalone complained to Switzer about Mitchell. Again, it could be nothing, but I'd can't imagine that Anzalone wanted to be on the same team as Mitchell.
I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.
To clear some things up, word I get is OSU wants Mitchell at MLB, so don't think the position eliminates Tyquan Lewis.
I personally see him getting in and not another running back but that's me. Time will tell. With Mitchell looking to be commitment #15, it really is a tight squeeze right now.
I think it all definitely eliminates the good things we were hearing at one time about Donovan Munger.
Then again, we could all be crazy and there could be more than 20 spots available.
I think that would be a better scenario Derek, especially since we are about to lose Klein, it would be great to add such an athlete at the LB spot, I dont think we need another RB but if Green wants in, Id find it hard to turn him down... needless to say if Mitchell hops aboard, this is going to be an interesting finish to the 2013 class
Very interesting.
We could possibly see no more lineman taken. I know the staff wants one more, but sometimes you have to take the best player available. Plus with Farris's move and Price's potential move we should be fine there.
I could see us finishing with Mitchell (15), Lewis (16), Gibson (17), Foster (18), Green (19), and Quick (20).
Now, if somehow, someway, Vernon Hargreaves wanted to commit that would throw everything out of a loop. He is someone you definitley don't say no to.
@CincyOSU. I agree with ya that it's quite immature for osu fans (or any other fans) to talk smack to recruits via twitter or any other source. That being said, realize that ANYONE can have an account and type ignorant comments. Majority are probably in their teens. Why the hatred for OSU fans getting excited (or bragging as you see it) about Mike Mitchell? Some of us who follow recruiting have known about Mitchell for some time now. I can understand your view about not getting too excited about a player until he's signed, but why even visit the site until Feb then? Yesterday may have been the first time you've heard of him, I get that. Following recruiting is suppose to be fun and something to debate with OSU faithful. Was the heat getting to you yesterday? LOL. Relax a lil. It may not be your cup of tea to follow until they've signed, but don't throw darts at others for discussing the "what ifs". Have a good one and stay cool, another scorcher today! Go Bucks
@Hayze, I too could see the staff not taking another OL due to numbers. It may come down to taking a middle of the pack OL or say a stud defender like Vonn Bell. May also depend on how the current freshmen OL are progressing. If the staff sees that Decker, Oconnor and Dodson etc are gonna be players then another OL may not be as urgent as some may think.
this could end very well. pick up mike with his freakish skills and throw in his phenom of a brother Mickey! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nx--0AIZoPQ&feature=youtube_gdata_player
@Derek I think with the news about Storms yesterday we should have room for Lewis, Mitchell, and Green (if he wants in). He has been in trouble before for assault and I don't see Meyer having too much sympathy this time. I know getting rid of him would make us very young at LB, but I think you have to take the chance in order to free up a scholly and take another young elite talent. I personally would like to see the class finish out like this:
(15) Mitchell
(16) Lewis
(17) Gibson
(18) Green
(19) Quick
(20) Bell
and if we kick off Storms (21) Foster
Losing Klein does not open up a spot in the 2013 recruiting class, as he is a senior. It has no bearing on recruiting whatsoever.
Just to restate this point: Storm Klein is a senior. Whether he is dismissed or not, it will not impact room for another recruit in 2013.
EDIT: sorry, didn't mean to dog pile. BIGSWEDE beat me to it.
Be an awesome finish to the class if it went as the above post has stated
That clip of his brother playing hoops is sick, great vision! Thanks B_P, both brothers seem to play their sport of choice very intense.
Anzalone would be hearing these tweets regardless of fan base if he decommitted from a different school. However these kids should just ignore the tweeters and do the best they can... when you start responding to this crap, it just shows that the fans can get into your head.
Bet you Bri'onte Dunn still hears crap like this from M*ch*g*n fans.
This was mentioned earlier this week but lets have another try: let Anzalone go, who really cares what that kid does or says now, he isnt a Buckeye or a Buckeye target anymore... lets shift our focus to enjoying the news about Mike Mitchell, this guy looks like he could be an absolute freak on this defense OSU is building
So, no one answered me this question last night I'll ask it again. Can't Ohio State bank Storm's scholarship this year(essentially taking an extra schollie penalty this year) and have one more schollie next year? Do they have to take 3 per year or could they take doc themsevles 4 for 2012 and only 2 for 2013? This is why I think, regardless if he's a senior or not, that it would absolutely give 1 more scholarship for 2013.
We are limited to 82 schollies each of the next three years.
Regarding limited scholarships...and it may be way too early to speculate but with a productive season, Big Hank will probably be off to the NFL after his junior season. So that would be an extra scholarship for 2013. With 5-6 spots left, I think the class could end up with Mitchell, Lewis, Whitfield, Gibson, Bell, and 1 OL. Lots of time till February though!
Champions Bleed Scarlet & Gray
@Albert:
This question was answered on different threads, but here it goes. Storm is a senior so his scholly would have no bearing whatsoever on the 13 class. And as for scholly's we are required to take a 3 scholly deduction every year for 3 years. We can't choose when to bank them.
hope that helps.
“The teams that don’t respect their coaches and don’t trust their coaches are the teams that go .500"
~Zach Boren
@BTalbert I think that if Klein is kicked off the team (big *if*), OSU would have 80 of a possible 82 on scholarship. So if we get some early enrollees from the 2013 class, two of those can be backdated to 2012, which would in theory open two extra scholarships for 2013. I don't know if that answers your question or not but that's the only way Klein's scholarship would have any bearing on this situation as far as I know...
Champions Bleed Scarlet & Gray
Yes, it does. That is what I was trying to figure out, could they take 4 this year and 2 next year or do they have to take 3 each year. If it has to be 3 every year, then that makes sense it would have no impact.
Yeah thanks, guys, I just thought it had to be a total of 9 schollies lost, I didn't realize that it had to be 3 each year for 3 years.
For this scenario to play out, OSU would have to be at 80 by August 1st if my memory serves correctly. I think that was the date given in the punishment. Or maybe the start of fall camp.
However, his lack of scholarship was being accounted for already after this season so I think the point is moot. Whether his scholarship is lifted now or after the season, we're still at the same number of spots available.
BT, you can see the scholarship limit spelled out on Page 19 of the official report.
http://espn.go.com/photo/preview/!pdfs/111220/ohio_state_report.pdf
I've said this a thousand times now since the fall, but this class will be at 22-24. Granted its been a few months since I've spoken with someone in the know about this, but as of then the staff was not worried about numbers. They were confident there would be more attrition than normal once the players see they aren't in the plans moving forward.
much better prospect than Sal Anzabroni's kid, and Dallas-area high school football > central/eastern PA-area high school football
"You win with people." - Woody Hayes
@BJMullens, @CincyOSU ... it was one OSU fan that sent Anzalone an ill-conceived tweet. You guys are overracting. (Real surprise "CincyOSU" would go negative on a post. Shocker.)
I agree with you guys that whoever sent that is an idiot, BUT, EVERY fan base has a few goofballs. Especially a fanbase the size of OSU - it's gonna have a few nuts. And, all of these kids that go on Twitter are going to get stupid messages from fans of teams for whatever reason. The difference is Anzalone reteweeted for whatever reason...(seems to like attention & making OSU look bad).
This isn't so far out of the norm, and OSU isn't worse than a lot of other schools. Let's not overreact.
"You win with people." - Woody Hayes
Anzabroni I see what you did there.. Let it go man it makes us look small and petty.
@BuckeyeMJ - My 2nd point in my comment was soley directed at the guy who tweeted Anzalone, when I said "we" I was just speaking in general. I was just saying how silly it was to brag about a recruit, who THIS GUY probably didn't know existed until yesterday, as if we he was already a member of the team. Of course there is reason to be excited about Mitchell...he looks like a beast and we need LB's(esp with the Klein situation). I'm not saying there is anything wrong with getting excited about recruting in the early stages, I love seeing the grey boxes with recruiting updates just like everyone else, eps since there isn't much to talk about until the season starts. Again, I was just stating how stupid it was for this guy to attack a former recruit using a player that hasn't even committed to us yet...how many "leans" have gone elsewhere recently? Thats all I was getting at.
@ McDougal24 ---- just having a little fun with "Cincy" ... I have no ill-will towards the Dr.'s son.
I've let it go awhile ago. I just think his did is a real (expletive), so I think Anzabroni is a nice little nickname for him. Ok, I'm stepping off my soap box. Let's think positive --- wanted to negate some of the negative, in a playful way.
"You win with people." - Woody Hayes
@CincyOSU....you are right, the kid from Texas - Mitchell - hasn't even commited yet. I agree that you can't count your chickens before they hatch.
"You win with people." - Woody Hayes
With Chase Farris moving to Offensive Tackle, IMO the O-Line recruiting is done for 2013 with Evan Lisle. Farris redshirted last year so he has 4 years in front of him and played OT in High School too. That sets up 2014 O-Line recruiting to be very strong with Jimmy Byrne, Nick Trout and others. However, there could be an opening for Lovell Peterson if he has a great senior year.
Mike Mitchell to OSU is awesome. Like this kid as a better young man and player than all the others that went elsewhere. Mike and his Dad want him to play the MIKE. Coach Meyer said the MIKE is here and waiting for you. It's the right fit.
Go BUCKS!!!!!!!
@ Bucks43201 - Explain how I went negative at all???? I posted about someone, a grown man, who attacked a 17 year old over the internet. I will NOT apologize for knocking on idiots. Maybe you like this part of our fanbase...who knows. You blast me for stating my opinion, yet you are one of the most opinionated ppl on here. Isn't calling me out the same thing that causes you to have such an issue with me? Kind of hypocritical isn't it? And for the record, and I posted about this last night as well, Anzalone also tweets nice things about OSU as well...he retweeted and OSU fan saying most sane OSU fans wish him well as well as wishing a happy anniversery to Pantoni. But apparently you ignore those facts as it doesnt fit your, and some others, opinion of Anzalone being a an OSU hater and attention whore.
@CincyOSU..... Understood! :o)
As far as another OL prospect, who's to say Dorian Johnson doesn't flip after all the PSU stuff settles. I know, wishful thinking, but we never thought we'd get Spence, schutt, Williams or Reeves.
i was gonna post some mike mitchell footage, but this turned into an anzalone thread...
Oversigning and Anzalone will always lead to a 100 comment thread lol.
Interesting point MJ, brings up a pretty obvious fact we keep forgetting, NSD is 7-8 months away and plenty can happen to PSU before then... Really hope we land Mitchell
Does Meyer pulling Stoneys Schollie for the summer have any affect on this recruiting class ala he would be able to redirect that towards having a bigger class?
Because I couldn't go for three. -Woody-
Stoney is a senior once again will have no effect on '13 class
Hardly home but always reppin
Man people need to get educated on how scholarshps work...
Cause I couldn't go for three
Just what I said, Urban will get better LBers in this class. The Job will be his.
I was curious so I searched mike mitchell to ohio state on google and the usc site men of troy had mike mitchell ohio state commit will start at mlb for the opening lile everyone else said till I c a grey box on this site I wont beleve it
let's be realistic guys/girls... if Mitchell took a poo that was in the shape of a Block-O, everyone here would go insane, hope the guy decides to come to OSU, but if not, at least his daddy didnt freak out to the national media...yet
I tend to listen to Alex...he says he's a Buckeye...so I believe Mitchell's going to be a Buckeye. I've heard Mike and his dad are already making plans for a visit to Columbus (but this may not be the end all be all to make the call). Can't wait till he visits (if he does)...

his poop has a better chance at looking like the horseshoe imho...
I don't know why he wants to play MIKE in college; he's a 3-4 OLB at the NFL level if I've ever seen one, provided he puts on 30-40 lbs.
"Paralyze resistance with persistence." -Woody Hayes
Well, with it looking more and more like Rueben Foster could flip to Georgia that would probably bode well for the good guys with Raekwon McMillan. He is listed as a middle linebacker next year. Also, we are in good position with OLBs Dante Booker and Clifton Garrett. All three appear to be top fifty players next year, so hopefully we can lock down Mitchell and focus on those three.
Plus McMillan always complains about being compared to Foster. Would def help us if Foster went to the Bulldogs.
Mike Farrell just tweeted that Mitchell was 80% sure that he would commit to tOSU but that it would not be next week.
"Paralyze resistance with persistence." -Woody Hayes
Look at McMillan's and Garrett's twitter conversation earlier. It pretty much screams " let's go to OSU together"
To sum up, really likes Ohio State. Will visit them soon hopefully, then will visit Florida State around Gridiron Kings and is thinking of committing around that time (he said it was 3 weeks from now). Sounds good for Ohio State.
Did he say "Coach Meyers"? Jesus, kid.
I'm sorry, I know this will get me blasted but I lived in East Texas for 10 years and it's REALLY hard to get a kid who is liking either A&M or UT. That rivalry there is alot like Ohio State/Michigan is here. You like one or the other and if you have a chance to go to one, you usually take it. Ohio State is pretty hated down there. I had to put up with Longhorn crap the whole time I was there. In fact behind Michigan, I hate UT just as much. Ugh...I DESPISE UT! Their fans are the most arrogant people I have ever met!
I'm not saying that he may not end up at Ohio State but when all is said and done, I wouldn't be surprised if he goes elsewhere. East Texas does have some amazing football talent though. I was the assistant network admin for the Gilmer Buckeyes and they were really good. I think in the last 10 years, they've won 3 Texas state 3A titles? I would love to see Ohio State recruit that school! In fact they are the only high school in America that has the name, "Buckeyes." Ohio State had someone go down there and present them with a plaq for it.
There is a school in Ohio that is the Nelsonville Buckeyes. Maybe there are only two. I want this young man to come to OSU and to become the original Buckeye. His play on the field was just incredible and he is seems to have a great personality also. He will be the leader that every coach is looking for, and to be that coach on the field and a recruiter of other great athletes.
I always wondered about that claim because you would think there would be other schools in Ohio that are named the Buckeyes. A buckeye in Texas looks absolutely nothing like one in Ohio. The nut itself looks the same but they aren't shiny like they are here and in Texas they grow on a bush and they don't come in a spikey shell like they do here. The first time my ex-father-in-law showed me one, I told him that that wasn't a buckeye and he said well what do they look like in Ohio? I told him they don't look anything at all like they do there. He said that those weren't real buckeyes then....lol
Thanks to DMCDOUGAL24 for that video...sounds like what most, including Alex and others at 11w are saying. I'd put $$$ he's a Buckeye unless FSU REALLY impresses him. Who cares about the coach Meyers thing...he's excited and just performed his ass off to impress coaches like "Meyer". Give the "17" year old a break, right. Jesus...he's just a 17 year old kid guys... ;-) Just kidding 1.8...too many ppl get fired up or overreact about simple things...like how Anzalone was getting tweets from one or two idiot OSU fans about Mitchell...who cares (no reason to overreact). Or what ppl call his big mouth ignorant father for making OSU look like a pile after his son's creeper experience (at first of course...bc his daddy made most OSU fans happy with his retorts the following day...puke. How fast some forget). Ppl will be idiots...especially on social media. Then ppl overreact, just the world we live in these days.

Nothing to worry about, OSU in driver's seat. Sounds like a visit was agreed upon before a public commitment given.
Yeah. Everyone is 6'4" 260 lbs on the net!....lol I just happen to be for real though...lol But I don't go around acting like a jerk to people either. There's too much of that crap going on now-a-days! That IS one thing that I really liked about Texas. Everyone says, "yes mam, no mam or sir." I remember my mom and dad teaching me that ever sense I was little growing up in Delaware but I sure don't remember very many other kids using that much respect. But then everybody there thought I was from there too. They all think people from Ohio talk like we are from New York or Chicago. I can remember people telling me I was a city boy and I grew up on a farm and had cows and horses when some of them had wore their stupid cowboy hats and boots but had no idea what it's like to live on a farm.
I do hope the kid comes to Ohio State. We need to have an in with Texas players cause it is one of the best states for recruiting. I got to watch Adrian Peterson play Gilmer and we won that year but you could tell Peterson was special. He was from Palestine and they had some really good football teams as well. Gilmer has had G.J. Kinne, Curtis Brown who I coached in basketball, Stump Godfrey, and Manuel Johnson. All D1 kids and all but Godfrey made it to the pro's. Although Brown is the only one currently with a pro team. I think anyway?
Good, because I'm sure we would all hate to see another Buckeye "lock" go elsewhere.
Who were the other Buckeye "locks" to go elsewhere? None come to my mind other than Anzalone and Neal. A verbal commitment is as close to a lock right now as there can be, haha. In those scenarios, Neal appears to have gotten the offer he actually wanted once LSU offered and he may have rushed his commitment to Ohio State, and Anzalone was completely unpreventable. A lot of factors played into that one from my eyes.
I really do not know what other "locks" went elsewhere. I may give you Pocic. I thought he would be a Buckeye.
^^^ Courtney Love?
Good call. Good late surge by Nebraska on that one.
Some of the supposed "locks" this year:
-Courtney Love: really think he was, until we started pursuing other LBs. Good pull by Nebraska
-Mike Heuereman: don't know what happend here. Alex was even saying lock after the spring game and that Mike was telling everyone he was a Buckeye. Something at ND made him change his mind.
-Ethan Pocic: never really thought he was a lock...did I think we led? Of course. But he never really gave any solid indication of his interests.
-Marcel Lazard: would have commited had his scholarship been commitable.
-Malik Zaire: same thing as Lazard. Plus he didn't want to work for an offer.
-Josh McNeil: again, if we wanted him, he was coming here. Just not enough scholarships after some other guys commited.
Sounds like Mitchell is as much of a "lock" as you can get. Give him time though. Don't want to rush a commitment until he's ready. I do look forward to seeing him in scarlet and gray, however.
Anzalone, Neal, Pocic, Love, Heuerman, Zaire, and McNeil were recruits that we heard from many sources (including EW) were Buckeye locks. I'm not in the least bit upset, but am just backing up my previous statement.
In ways, they probably could have been conceived "locks"
In recruiting, things can change on a dime and it's not always black and white.
Hope we land this kid, stud!! Can we lay off the "putting everyone at rush end eventually"for every LB we recruit. We need big fast Lb'era and this kid fits that mold perfectly. We have Spence, Pittman, Miller, and possibly even Marcus or Washington to play rush end. That's plenty for the future!
