100 years ago today the guns fell silent on the Western Front as British and German troops sang Christmas carols to each other across the front lines. On Christmas morning German troops emerged from their trenches saying Merry Christmas in their native tongue and in English. The cautious British troops eventually emerged as well and the two enemy forces exchanged gifts in No Man's Land. They even played a friendly game of soccer.
It's nice to see that even in a time of war two enemies were able to put away their differences for just a day to celebrate what is really important. Merry Christmas!
