Football and basketball recruiting news

Catching Up with Demetrius Monday

Monday has done well at combines this off-seasonMonday impressed at this weekend's combine

There was an abundance of talent at the RAW Talent Sports Combine in Cleveland this past weekend. We already brought you news of talented 2014 WR Demarre Kitt out of Georgia who starred at the event. It appears the Peach State ruled the combine, as another player who stood out amongst onlookers was 2013 Fairburn (GA) Arlington Christian CB Demetrius Monday.

Monday, a 5-11/185 coverage corner, had quite the performance on Saturday and was named as one of the events top performers. Facing some of the top receivers in the Midwest, he was in lock-down mode all day long and if any balls thrown his way were caught, yardage after the catch came few and far between.

Following his big day Saturday, Monday decided to take a trip down I-71 to check out Ohio State and Cincinnati while he was in the Buckeye State. While he doesn't hold an offer yet, OSU had been in communication and getting in front of the coaching staff was definitely a smart move on his part.

We got the chance to sit down with Monday to discuss his performance at the combine, his trip to Columbus, the latest on his recruitment, and more. Join us after the jump to learn more about one of Georgia's fastest rising prospects in the 2013 class, Demetrius Monday.

Catching Up with Ben Flick

Flick was a guest for a much better OSU-Michigan basketball gameFlick will try to earn an OSU offer at camp this summer

The offensive line is certainly a big need again in the recruiting class of 2013 and we have brought you updates from some players in the position on OSU's radar, so why stop now? We are back with another segment of "Catching Up" and this time we chat with Hamilton OT Ben Flick.

Flick, a 6-6/270 lineman, is best known for his athleticism which is very impressive for a player of his size. He currently holds just one offer, but as he makes more college visits and hits the camp circuit this coming summer, things are certain to heat up on the scholarship front as many top programs are in his ear selling their schools already.

Flick was in attendance at the Ohio State Junior Day at the end of January when the Bucks took on Michigan at the Schottenstein Center. He left Columbus with a better feel for where he stands with the Ohio State staff, as well as a good view on what the new coaching staff's plans are for the Buckeye football program.

We got the chance to sit down with Ben to discuss his recruitment, that visit to Ohio State, where he stands with the coaching staff, and much more. Join us after the jump to read more on Hamilton rising star lineman, Ben Flick.

Catching Up with Demarre Kitt

Break me off a piece of that Kitt Kat BarKitt is one of the nation's best for the class of 2014

While Urban Meyer and his staff are trying to compile a recruiting class that would rank tops in the country for 2013, it's never to early to start thinking about the future and that includes some star studded players in the class of 2014.

One of those star players comes from Tyrone (GA) Sandy Creek High School in the form of WR Demarre Kitt. Kitt stands at 6-1/180 already as a sophomore and with recent Auburn signee (and former Buckeye recruit) JaQuay Williams, formed one of the deadliest receiving corps in the south.

This past year Kitt compiled 42 catches for 651 yards and 10 touchdowns, while also adding a punt return for a score, as Sandy Creek went 12-1, falling in the quarterfinal round of the playoffs. This year, with more experience and a stronger physique thanks to off-season training, he will look to capitalize on the opportunity to be the top receiving threat on his team and finish the season off with a state championship.

With such a great season in the books, Kitt has already garnered a lot of attention on the recruiting trail. In addition to offers from Clemson, Georgia, Cincinnati, South Carolina, Auburn, and Ole Miss, he is expecting offers from Florida and Alabama in the near future and his receiving interest from many of the top programs in the country, including Ohio State.

This weekend Kitt took the luxury of having off of President's Day to take a trip up north to Ohio to participate in the RAW Talent Sports Combine in Cleveland, as well as take a tour of the campuses at Ohio State and Cincinnati.

Catching Up with Sean Welsh

Welsh is no stranger to Ohio StateWelsh may be the next Springboro alum to go to OSU

When Springboro High School is in the discussion, many Buckeye fans will think of former Ohio State and current New York Giants tight end Jake Ballard. In fact, the new Super Bowl Champion is probably the only Springboro alumnus the majority of fans can name when put to the task.

One player that is trying to change that and put his name right up there with Ballard's in Springboro history is 2013 offensive lineman, Sean Welsh, who is a rising star for the Panthers and is one of the more sought after players in Ohio by some major college football programs.

The 6-3/280 Welsh is projected at guard at the college level, but is getting a lot of interest despite tackle being the premium in the college game these days. He plays with a nasty streak and has shown good mechanics and great lower body strength in paving the way for the Springboro running backs to make big plays the last few years.

Welsh was one of the many players in attendance for Ohio State's second Junior Day last week and came away very impressed with what Urban Meyer has in store for the Buckeyes. We got the chance to sit down with Welsh to discuss that visit, what is going on with his recruitment, whether or not he plans on reaching out to Ballard for advice, and more.

Join us after the jump to hear more about 2013 offensive guard prospect, Springboro's Sean Welsh.

Catching Up With Billy Price: Committed

The Price Was Right For Ohio StatePrice decided that it was time to pull the trigger.

Last Monday, Austintown-Fitch defensive tackle Billy Price became Ohio State's fourth member of the 2013 Buckeye recruiting class. Price made his decision after a weekend visit to Columbus where he was able to see the campus again, but more importantly after getting an opportunity to sit down with Urban Meyer and the coaching staff to see where he fits into the Buckeyes' plans.

The commitment was not altogether surprising, as many suspected that Price would ultimately end up a Buckeye, but the timing of it did catch some off-guard since he told me only two weeks earlier that he would like to wait through his senior season.

He had also told me that he already knew where he was going, but that he wanted to take his time before making it public. I got a chance to talk to Billy last week after his announcement became official and was able to get some understanding of what changed.

The 6'4, 305 pound Price is a big-time prospect on either side of the line of scrimmage, but he will definitely get his first looks as a defensive lineman. How does he feel about that? We'll tackle that question and a few others after the jump.

Join us, won't you?

Catching Up with Steve Mathie

Mathie is one of Ohio's best OL in 2013Mathie paved the way for Bri'onte Dunn this year

Ohio State has done well in the last decade or so in the recruiting area when it comes to Canton GlenOak High School, landing Kosta Koufos on the hardwood, while enlisting Dustin Fox, Brian Hartline, and now Bri'onte Dunn on the gridiron.

In the class of 2013, the GlenOak football program has another wave of solid prospects that are set to garner Division I football interest. One of those players is 6-5/285 offensive tackle Steve Mathie, who is being regarded as one of the top offensive line prospects in the state of Ohio.

While Dunn was one of the best running backs in the country this past year, Mathie was one of the guys paving the road for his success. His effort in the trenches did not go unnoticed, as big time schools are showing interest in him and offers are starting to come in.

Naturally, one of the schools showing interest is Ohio State, as the staff got an up close and personal look at Mathie while they were recruiting Dunn this past year. Mathie was invited to visit Columbus a number of times, including last weekend for what was the second Junior Day of the year.

We got the chance to catch up with Steve to hear the latest on his recruitment, how his OSU visit went, which Buckeye coaches he spoke to and more. Join us after the jump to hear more on Canton GlenOak tackle, Steve Mathie.

Catching Up with Taquan Mizzell

Mizzell is a top 100 prospectMizzell was recently offered by OSU

Running back is certainly not a position of need heading into recruiting season for the class of 2013, but that doesn't mean Urban Meyer and Stan Drayton aren't trying to bring in more play makers at the position.

Recruiting fans are familiar with names such as Ty Isaac, Derrick Green, DeVeon Smith, and others at running back in the class, but another player that joins those players among the wide list of players offered by the Buckeyes is Virginia Beach (VA) Bayside's Taquan Mizzell.

Mizzell is the 87th ranked player in the class of 2013 according to Rivals and it one of the more highly sought after backs in the nation. The 5-10/180 back, who is nicknamed "Smoke", has been clocked in the 4.4's in the 40-yard dash was recently offered by Ohio State, giving him his 10th offer at this point in time.

We got a chance to sit down and talk to Mizzell to discuss his recruitment, see how his junior season went, talk about a potential Ohio State visit, and more. Join us after the jump to learn about one of the best running backs in the class of 2013, Taquan Mizzell.

Catching Up with Tate Leavitt

Leavitt soaked up his Junior Day at OSULeavitt could be part of OSU's next title run

As we have mentioned before, recruiting the offensive line has been made a priority for both the class of 2012 and the class of 2013.

While some national players such as Ethan Pocic, Hunter Bivin, and others have been offered, the staff has been fairly slow to offer some in-state linemen, as they have a bit more time to evaluate them given the home field advantage.

One of the in-state linemen that has been making waves in recruiting circles this winter is Tate Leavitt of Thornville Sheridan. Leavitt currently doesn't hold any offers, but with great size (6-7/280) and a developing skill set, he is someone to watch and many believe he is more than worthy of BCS offers that are expected to come his way in the near future.

The mammoth tackle was in Columbus last weekend for Junior Day and came away quite impressed with what he saw, while also making sure he was on the Ohio State staff's radar as they continue the process of deciding which offensive linemen to give scholarship offers to.

We got the chance to sit down with Tate to see how his visit to OSU went, what the coaches told him, what his future plans are, and more. Join us after the jump to learn more about 2013 offensive tackle prospect, Tate Leavitt.
