PHONE'S RINGING -- IT'S URBAN ON THE LINE
I said as much on Twitter, but the fact that Urban met with Arizona has to be encouraging news to Buckeye fans on the Urbs Wagon.
Roger this is great broski
If Denard Robinson isn't careful with spooning all that food into his mouth, he's going to end up lookin' like Whoopi Goldberg
No one wants Penn State in their bowl, and there's still a chance of a bowl ban for Ohio State, so both teams should just call Saturday's matchup the Urban Meyer Bowl. His ego would be so delighted.
Darn it Sarah! You beat me to it, I was going to suggest the very same thing.
Mixed feelings about Meyer. I just don’t like him (not that I know him personally or anything, I just don’t like 2006). I know this is short-sighted and I should dress it up with comments about his fragile disposition and/or his gimmicky system that empowered Tebow Nation into thinking he is an actual QB (and making me perpetually nauseous in the process), but it all comes down to 2006. I loathe that he was the man on the other side of that disaster. I called him Urban Cryer for whining his way into that game. I continually bag on him for all the arrests and UF while he was there. I just associate everything about the whole S-E-C thing with him since it all began in 2006. I feel like I need a shower just talking about him for the last few minutes.
I know it would do wonders for recruiting, and hell, he's won everywhere he has ever been. I know he is an Ohio boy at heart, but damn. Just damn.
Buckeye born and bred. Buckeye til I'm dead.

41-14 is the ROOT of all the UMeyer animosity. Sure the other stuff (his health, tebow, shady recruiting practices) is piled on, but you get to the heart of it and its 2006 and how badly they destroyed us. Some of us here are too prideful to turn around and hire him 5 years later. It's like admitting defeat all over again for a lot of people.
But we shouldn't let our personal feelings cloud the football judgment. I'm def. among the more "Fanboy" of the UM fanboys here, but even I will admit he has his flaws as a coach. But EVERYONE does. Tress did, Woody did, you're never going to get perfection. The question should be, is he the Best coach available, and secondly, can we get him?
I personally feel like I'd be okay with the likes of Chris Petersen (but think its impossible he leaves the West Coast), or any successful NFL guy (dungy/gruden, the pipe dreams). But to me, if you combine availability and the reality of it, UM is the coach we should go after.
(And regardless of how you feel about UM, the answer to Best coach available is NOT. Fickell. I would take Brady Hoke over Fick. Hell, I'd take RICH ROD over Fick. At least our losses would be entertaining and not set the game of football back 55 years.)
You do realize that he took his foot of the gas in the 2nd half because of his deep respect and admiration for Ohio State, right? The Gators only attempted eight 2nd half passes and took a knee inside the Ohio State 10 to end the game.
And honestly, as much as that loss hurt, his preparation for that game (which included greasing the quote board with fake quotes to fire up his troops) is exactly what I want out of a coach. His defense knew what Ohio State was going to do based on tells.
Yes and also his id.
I heard he has a super ego.
I heard with his ego, he could stand there with a speedo and still be looked at like an effing hero.
Now he embodies every characteristic of the egotistic/
He knows he's so fucking gifted.
Watch out bitches or I'll quote some Cat Stevens up in here.
I think he would fit in with a more ghetto university.
October 20th: National Kenneth Guiton Day
I'm friends with a few guys that played big time college football and a few of them are coaching now (one is a low level assistant with the Lions, the other a low level recruiting assistant at Alabama). The most prominent friend in this group chose not to go into coach, despite being the smartest, most charismatic, and best player among them (he was on the Rimington Watchlist his senior year). I asked him this weekend why he didn't go into coaching. His EXACT words were "Dude, you have to be slightly fucked up in the head to be a D1 college or pro coach. And you have to have an ego bigger than anyone else in the room, no matter where you go".
If you're going to coach, you have to have an ego. You have to be an "alpha male", else no one will follow you. Jim Tressel was a rarity, but even he had a little bit of an ego. He was just much more patient and stoic.
With that said. I don't get the "Follow me!" vibe from Fickell. Does anyone else. He's mor "meh?"
Count me among the "would not like Meyer" crowd. He's a winner, yes, but as AngelHeartsBuckeyes said, just too much bad blood for me to really be comfortable having him at the helm of the Buckeyes right now. If I were rational, I'd look at what he did with Tebow and immediately start drooling when thinking of ways he could use somebody like Braxton. Of course, I'd really just like to see the Buckeyes go after someone else. I'd share my personal favorite candidates, but I'm frankly too tired to have to deal with flaming posts about my picks for the next OSU coach, so I'll just say I hope OSU decides to shell out some money for decent assistants. Maybe they can ask Bollman for 10 years of backpay, since he's not really done an ounce of work anyway.
How can any self-respecting Buckeye fan be in favor of hiring a head coach whose initials are "UM"? I think we need to see his birth certificate to find out if his middle name is "of". :-)
Real fans stay for Carmen.
So, he is already tired of his family?
Not necessarily.... His daughters are tired of not being in the spotlight. Seriously, read their twitter feeds. Especially Nicki's (@Nicki_07). She wants the spotlight, but "wants (her) daddy" too. In other words, she wants to have her cake and eat it too. I think she realizes that the longer Urban goes without coaching, the less people care about her and her twitter feed.
The day I follow a coach's daughter's twitter feed is the day you can commit me to the asylum. Not that there's anthing wrong with that.
I only started following Nicki after her stupid tweet about "Dear ESPN, can I please have my daddy back?" or whatever. Seriously, these are two of the most spoiled and whiny girls you'll ever meet in your life. Honestly, how many parents have the opportunity to see both their daughters play volleyball on a regular occassion when BOTH go to college hundreds of miles away (as Urban has done this year). They can cry and bitch all they want about not seeing their daddy when he was coaching, but at least now he can afford to allow his daughters to play wherever they want and still be able to attend games with regularity.
Seriously, they're not the first daughters whose dad was/is a big time college football coach (Umm, Saban has two children, Les Miles has FOUR). Nor are they the first children whose dad was often just a little too busy to be able to make every game for every child (those of you who grew up with a father running a small business will know exactly what I'm talking about). But I think they're beginning to understand as they're missing the attention. I think deep down they want him to coach again soon.
Definitely no pressure to win out there in Tucson since they're more of a Men's BBall power. Demands of their Head Coach position probably wouldn't effect/add to his "health/heart problems" like they would here in C-Bus or in Happy Valley where BUCKEYE/NittanyLion Football is King over everything.
From some online photos that I've seen. Urbans daughters are slut bags.
Run_Fido's favorite word is strawman.
There is no way that you're not a parody.
I've posted this many times, but I'll do so again just because. F-Urban. This is not the guy we want cleaning up a battered program. I'm sure the team isn't full of choir boys right now, but we will be stockpiled with criminals in two years. Anyone who invokes god's name during recruiting is a pos. If he's the next coach, I won't stop cheering. But I'll feel less good about it.
+1 My sentiments exactly. I thought he put up with way too much in Florida.
Winning cures a lot of things fellas. He isn't the perfect candidate, but he is the most perfect candidiate. Winning cures a lot of things.
We shouldn't be mad at him for 2006. He wasn't the one taking Troy to In n Out Burger or making the team read their own press clippings. He did his job, and from the outcome of the game he did it damn well. I would rather see him patrolling OUR side line than PSU's. How much would you hate the guy when he is winning B1G titles and taking State Penn to BCS/MNC games. I would be fooking furious at tOSU for not landing him when we had the chance. a no name coach like Tressel will not work again. Cooper had run the program into the ground and nobody wanted the job. We are coming off the best decade in our history and the cupboard is full with talent. Higher a big name coach and continue to win. there are no guarantees with Urban, just like there were no guarantees when Tress came aboard. How many of us were happy with that hire at the time? I, for one, wasn't. We got damn lucky it worked out. Meyer has proven to be a winner everywhere he goes. Why would that change in Cbus? It shouldn't and most probably wouldn't. Hire the man and let's get back to kicking ass and taking names. Being anything but B1G champs is for UofM.
