Burn Turtle Burn

From CBS DC:

LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — It is a tradition for University of Maryland, College Park students to leave offerings for the Testudo statue in front of McKeldin Library for luck during finals.

But, to the chagrin of students who idolize the iconic figure, the statue caught on fire at some point Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning.

University officials say they believe the incident was accidental.

Is this considered "accidental" in the same way Lane Kiffin's employment at USC is now considered "accidental"? How is it possible to accidently catch A STATUE on fire?

Hate it when statues happen to catch fire. Stupid gas-soaked concrete!

Sounds like these "offerings" included "highly flammable liquid" and "open flame" this year.

Idol worship. We are living in the end times. What do Bammers offer up at the feet of Saban? Skoal cans and squirrel pelts?

Damn. Global warming is for real.

To err is human. Really sucking requires having yellow stripes on your helmet.

When we were visiting colleges for my son to attend, i was tremendously impressed by U of Maryland and its traditions.  Testudo is prominently a part of the UM campus along with a cool statue of UM alum Jim Henson and Kermit.
That having been said cannot wait to beat them silly in October of 2014....

"Testudo is was prominently a part of the UM campus..."
Fixed that for you.

It is completely possible that this was an accident, and I'll give you an example.  I once accidentally tripped into bed with one of my sisters best friends.

Metallic spontaneous combustion

Battles are sometimes won by generals; wars are nearly always won by sergeants and privates. Football is no different, the guys down in the trenches win the games, not the coach.

Is very bad to drink Testudo's rum.  Is very bad.

You guys can gif up a thread about anything. Several turtle specific gifs, I don't know why I'm surprised

This is an interesting transition since I just read the article about Clemson hanging the Woody sign on our Brutus statue in response. Unless a bolt of lightning lit that thing up, I think the people that said they were glad we could have some harmless trolling going back and forth without any property damage were even more right than they knew.

I know it is winter and all, but could a lightning strike have done this?  Inquiring minds want to know.

I'm pretty sure Jim Delany hired someone to do this and he planted evidence that incriminates someone from the ACC.

Never mess with the Almighty and idolatry! I think He had something to say about Big Butter Jesus at that church on I-75 between Dayton and Cincinnati!
Or else He's an art critic!

The only turtles this thread is missing are the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.  I'm surprised someone hasn't gif'ed those guys yet.
