Guiton mugged for the camera and then went out and destroyed the Cal secondary.

Following a 276-yard, four touchdown performance in Ohio State's 52-34 dismantling of Cal, quarterback Kenny Guiton has been named the Walter Camp player of the week.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Fifth-year Ohio State senior quarterback Kenny Guiton was named the Walter Camp Football Foundation’s national offensive player of the week after throwing for 276 yards and four touchdowns in the No. 3/4 Buckeyes’ 52-34 win over California Saturday in Berkeley, Calif.

Guiton, from Houston, Texas, and Eisenhower High School, made his first career start a memorable one by throwing for three touchdowns in the first six minutes of the game to spark Ohio State to a quick 21-0 lead. Included was a school-record 90-yard touchdown pass – the longest play from scrimmage in school history – to Devin Smith on his second throw of the game. He later hit Smith on a 47-yard touchdown pass, Chris Fields on a 1-yarder and Corey Brown on a 6-yard play and finished the day 21 of 32 with no interceptions.

When he wasn’t handing off to Jordan Hall, who carried 30 times for 168 yards and three touchdowns, Guiton was rushing it himself for 92 total yards to finish with 368 yards of offense. He led a Buckeye offense to a three-year high 608 yards, the most for an Urban Meyer-coached Ohio State team. The Buckeyes rushed for 332 yards.

Guiton is the eighth Buckeye to earn national player of the week honor from the prestigious Walter Camp Football Foundation, joining LB Bobby Carpenter (10/16/05), LB A.J. Hawk (11/13/05), LB James Laurinaitis (9/10/06 and 11/4/07), QB Troy Smith (11/19/06), DT Cameron Heyward (11/8/09) and DB Chimdi Chekwa (9/12/10).

How does that feel, Kenny?

Wow.  Great job Kenny!

I'm not saying,  I'm just saying.

Congrats to Kenny G!
I'm so torn here.  I know Braxton is great and is our guy...but I want to see Kenny do well and play too.  Kenny G has a great attitude, is fun loving and goes on the attack.  He gets the rock out quick and gets in the hands of the perimeter speedsters.  He's able to bust off big runs when he needs to as well.  Also, being a 5th year senior, has great poise and a seemingly great grasp on the playbook/reads/concepts.  Probably my favorite back up QB since Scott McMullen.
Braxton on the other hand is a play maker himself.  He is the game plan, it all revolves around him.  Guy dances around quite a bit but can absolute gash any team in the country when clicking on all cylinders.  There's a reason for all his preseason Heisman hype and for him being the starter in the first place...but hot dang, both these guys are fun to watch.
Again, I know we go back to Braxton when he's healthy but it's sad to see Kenny go back to the bench.  This is a good problem to have but I love both guys and want them both to shine.

Note: No way in hail am I advocating for a 2 QB system.  Just saying I like both these guys and their different attributes.

Well said.
Man, what a phenomenal problem to have. I'm loving it. Go Bucks.

What a problem to have, eh?

Well said CHIEF B1G DUMP!, I would like to see Kenny get more playing time, also he leads in the stats and has more playing time then Braxton. What would you do if you were the coach?
Go Bucks!!

Gotta love Smooth Jazz!  He would definitely be starting at at least 75% of FBS schools.

I love Braxton and what he does for us but I also have a huge bro-mance going on for the smooth jazz that for his sake I do not want to end.

Congrats to Kenny. The guy is a real class act.

I had this great idea for a Senior Day halftime show: Kenny Guiton and Kenny G team up for a duet. The place would go nuts. More realistically, just have one of the band members dress up as Kenny G and go out there. Would still be amazing.

Scotch: It may be too early to drink it, yes; but people it is never to early to think about it.

No...hold that thought!
The real Kenny G just might make an appearance if the right approach is used.
I think in celebration of Grant Reed's defeat of cancerous Mich*gan, and the salute to our own Kenny G as the sun sets on his historic career (I think owning the longest play from scrimmage record is so apt and cool for him)...
...the smooth jazzman himself just might consider a cause like that.
Dear Eleven Warriors,
Is there someone on the staff who can start this ball rolling?  Get in contact with Kenny G and explain these historic achievements, and that actually, it could be good for his career as well.
Man, that would be boss.

Nothing personal... but my opinion is not only no, but HELL no. That's blasphemy to even think of allowing that no-talent hack performing with TBDBITL... the toolbag plays a frigging soprano sax... and just like the soprano sax is a polished up, shiny, nasally, gay cousin of the clarinet, the same is true of Kenny G and real jazz musicians. Besides... how dare you even consider sullying TBDBITL by suggesting a dirty woodwind instrument sully the sound of and share the field with the most famous and talented all brass marching band in the world!?

If I have said it once I have said it a million times.  From the time of the Purdue game last year to this Cal game, Guiton's arm strength has improved 5 fold.  If this was NCAA 14 his Throw Power would have gone from 82 to 95 and his accuracy was always at 98.
He's good is my general point.

Congratulations Kenny, certainly deserved. He has had ice water in his veins  and performed like a top division I QB. Couldn't ask for anything more from him. Glad he was voted a " Captain" on this team!!

I'll just go ahead and say it...
Kenny Guiton could play for nearly any other offense...not simply 75% of them.
He has the football intelligence and a well-rounded skill set to adjust and fill to pretty much any offensive game plan.
Is Braxton even better?  Yes.
But imagine the smile on Urban's face when he looks Brax in the eye and says,
"Now go out there and win your spot back!"
What an extraordinary treat to have at Ohio State...a Heisman hopeful quarterback who has real competition pushing him!

Smooth Jazz...hope they pipe in some Kenny G during the FAMU game.

I can't really remember the last time I was so happy for/proud of one our guys. From Urbz being upfront and vocalizing the idea that transferring may be a positive career decision (allegedly), to him saying no thanks this is my team, being voted a team captain, then scooping up the Walter Camp POTW. Damn Kenny, well earned.

As one of the 11W writers put it, he is the anti-Johnny Football.  Just a great story, it restores your faith in the value of hard work, waiting for your chance, and believing in yourself.  No wonder Tom Herman got choked up after the game.  I'd love to see Kenny G. on our coaching staff some day.  OK, I'm going back to being my usual cynical, smart a** self now.

The will to win is not as important as the will to prepare to win. -- Woody Hayes

I know with Miller coming back Guiton might be put on the back burner. But I vote for Guiton playing any 4th quarter which we enter leading by 14 points, and any second half if we go into halftime with a 25 or more point lead.  That way we will still get to witness some of his amazing decision making; he will also get to show NFL scouts what he can do.
Now, if Braxton explodes statistically in the next couple games and is a top-3 front runner for the Heisman this goes out the window.  Get that kid the trophy!

ChazBuckeye's picture

I'm so glad Kenny showed the world of college football how good he can be.  Also it makes the doubters on this site tighten their lips/fingers who think Braxton is the end all be all for this offense to function.  This is a system and IMO, Kenny G fits it just as good as Braxton. He's just not as fast of a runner.  Bottom line.  Now the naysayers can learn from this and be more positive in the future if Braxton gets hurt (if that happens again).  As opposed to how horrible the offense will be or how out of sorts Braxton will be by missing 4 weeks or what ever it may be.  Be happy OSU actually has a competent back up.
Unlike this below...

Some people think we’re the hunted.I don’t feel that way at all. We’re the hunter.Everybody wants an angry football team.Everybody wants a team on edge and a hungry team.If you’re a hunter, that usually equates to being hungry.

I'm really glad that Urban said that he wants to keep playing Kenny some, even after Braxton is back.
Mucho Kenny G, por favor!

So Kenny just walks onto the field for the first start in his career and walks off with the Walter Camp Player of the Week Award. Not bad . . . not bad at all!
