When Chris Jent's departure was announced, many expected that Ohio State Video Coordinator, Greg Paulus, would be in line for the promotion to assistant coach. ESPN's Jeff Goodman is now reporting that it appears to be a done deal to happen:
Greg Paulus will be elevated by Ohio State's Thad Matta to assistant coach from video coordinator, per source. Former Duke PG and Cuse QB.— Jeff Goodman (@GoodmanESPN) June 12, 2013
The 26 year old Paulus will now be an assistant coach on college basketball's biggest stage just a few years after trying to start a football career at Syracuse.
Paulus has previously been an assistant at Navy for one season before joining Ohio State's staff in 2011 as Video Coordinator. His name was tied to assistant coaching jobs at Northwestern and Toledo this offseason. Paulus turned down a job offer to join the basketball staff at Toledo in hopes that he would be in line for a promotion if one of the Buckeyes' assistant coaches left.
Thad Matta will now begin his search for a Video Coordinator to replace Paulus.
