Reeves Makes 24
Urban does it again, this time in the form of West Roxbury (MA) Catholic Memorial CB Armani Reeves. The four-star defensive back committed to the Buckeyes moments ago, becoming the 24th member (23rd if Roger Lewis doesn't make the grades) of Ohio State's recruiting class of 2012.
The Semper Fidelis All-American and former Penn State commit joins his teammate and best friend, Camren Williams, in Scarlet and Gray about a week after the super linebacker prospect took things public with his decision to flip to OSU. Williams chose the Bucks over the Nittany Lions, as well as Michigan, who made a late charge to try and land him for their also star-studded class.
At the end of the day, Reeves (5-10/185) took the opportunity to come play in Columbus, where his skills are needed after the departures of Derjuan Gambrell and Dominic Clarke at the corner back position. He joins Najee Murray as the only two corners in this class, and will likely compete for the final spot in the two deep right away (Travis Howard, Bradley Roby, and Doran Grant likely have the first three).
The commitment of Reeves is a big one for the staff, as it filled a position of need and kept a very good player away from rivals Michigan and Penn State. With corner back depth being an issue these days, expect to see Reeves on the field from day one, either locking down receivers or on special teams. The Buckeyes continue to compile a very good recruiting class under Urban Meyer and only have a few slots left before things fill up.

With the DL wreaking havoc, Reeves might have plenty of opportunities to exhibit those ball skills -why play WR when it's easier to juke OLmen, the QB who threw the pick, etc.?
The long ball where he reaches and keeps his feet for the score was special. People said the same thing about teddy ginn.

I agree D-Mac. I've never particularly paid attention to recruiting, but I can say that has changed. Obviously, Urban Meyer has a lot to do with that; but the work Alex & Jeremy do is pretty sweet. And, it's free, which is cool because paying for information sucks.

It seems like Michigan's class is very strong on tough guys in the trenches (e.g., Pipkins, Kalis), but does not include many dyanamic athletes. For example, both the LB and WR units seem physical & fundamentally sound, but lack high-end speed and athleticism.
Already, the Buckeyes' 2012 class looks like an SEC class, as the cliche goes, and if Urban is able to land one/both of Diggs and/or Neal, the two respective classes will set up future battles between the traditional plodding midwestern power team (Michigan) versus a speed/power team (Ohio State) - I like our chances.
Ours is a real strong class for linebackers and for linemen. It is one of the most questionable classes for skill players I can recall in a long time.
Make no mistake about it; Dunn and Reeves were very much wanted up here, and we had convinced ourselves that we were the first option in both cases. Two recruits where we got beat fair and square.
Best of luck to Reeves and Dunn for successful and fun collegiate careers. I'd like to think that they were really hard decisions for both guys. I hope they were hard decisions.
I much as I hate to say it - I'd rather have The Game competitive again. Don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed the Buckeyes kicking your team's asses over the last 11 years. It was a great payback for all of those years I endured sitting in that goddamn stadium in AA watching Cooper ruin a great season while he yacked up the ham. If I ever ran into Tim Biacaba-whatthefuckishislastname dude, I would sucker punch him with a bat for dropping 300 on OSU that day! But watching The Game become a back story over the last 5 years because of a weakened opponent made me realize why we love (when we win) and hate (when we lose) this game so much - it is when both teams have the ability to knock the other one down at any point in time with a title on the line! That is what makes our blood boil, have 20 strokes watching it, and consume copious amounts of liquor before, during, and ater The Game. This Flounder Hoke - Urban Meyer duel is absolutely bringing our tussel right back to front page immediately.

Also -- more good news -- I have "sources" telling me that 2013 WR/ATH Robert Foster has Ohio State as one of his favorites. In fact, it'd take a lot to undo that feeling. Assuming OSU has a strong, momentous 2012 season --- it'd be hard for Foster to commit anywhere else. He wants a tradition-strong school that has a great chance to compete for a BCS Championship every year. He won't be committing to a school too early, but probably near the end of his senior season. As it stands now, the Buckeyes are looking very very good as his early leader.
p.s. I watched Foster's Central Valley vs. Rushel Shell's Hopewell team this past season & Shell gets a lot of hype, but it wasn't even close who the best player on the field was --- it was Foster. Shell is a bit overrated. Foster is an athletic freak who can burn on speed and can leap, and he's tough. He is a Buckeyes lean.

yes, he tweeted top 5 -- but OSU was already in his top 5 before Urban committed, and now the unspoken is that OSU is basically his "top 1" and the rest are a level below OSU, even though he will continue to take visits.
Urban has gone on a rampage is such little time for the 2012 class. He is going to destroy the 2013 recruiting game. Just hope he gets some much-needed rest and is pacing himself.

Michigan still has a very solid recruiting class, but this one has to sting a little. Sources were indicating most of the way that he was leaning Michigan, and I think that they were really counting on getting Armani. Now they are turning their attention to Jordan Diamond from what I could see.
Best of luck to Armani at Ohio State. He said himself that he puts academics ahead of football, so I wish him luck in his pursuit of a degree and I hope he has the time of his life wearing the scarlet & gray.

But I don't have a trained eye or have any sort of expertise, so why are you, or any other of the 11w staff for that matter, so excited for Reeves?

The players he got to commit are top recruits. I think it's easy to see this class with all the 4/5 stars added made this class rise as quickly as it did. Just look at all the guys who committed in that one week span earlier this month. Urbz in on a mission to get the best recuits from all over the nation and everyone is noticing.

After watching that tape I have no idea how good of corner he is (since they didn't show any of his defensive highlights) however he is def. a candidate to return kicks. Great acceleration and shiftiness.

You know, I think I've read more 'first time poster' comments since Meyer was hired then all the previous 2 years combined. Overall number of comments, forum posts, and such all seem to be on the rise as well. I'd be interested in seeing someone on the 11W staff whip up something showing site traffic. Maybe a before and after or month by month comparison over the past year or two.
Another newbie here...been following all of the great info on here for the past week, then finally posted my first comments earlier tonight right after the Reeves commitment - was too damn excited not to! I've been waiting for Reeves to announce since Williams did, and repeatedly checked in all weekend (like so many others on here).
I'm loving this class!!! I'm hoping we can add 3-4 more in Dodson, Marcus, Neal, Diggs (had thought maybe Cox or Caleb might sneak in, but it doesn't sound likely). And 2013 is gonna be awesome!

Don't forget about Doran Grant. He's already in the top 3 corners on the depth chart and got some valuable experience last year. With Burrows and probably Woodard coming in next year, I'm confident in our future at corner.
I just hope with all these great recruits coming in we actually get back to the silver bullet days! Our defense hasnt been absolutely dominate since the Fred Pagac days. Thats when we would fly around to the ball and the defense dictated everything going on. Im pumped with both Withers and Fickell calling the plays that we will be BRINGING THE HOUSE!!
The thing I hate about Hoke and Michigan is he's taking all this credit for turning them around when in fact all of their players were recruited by Rich Rod. And I hope that in a bowl game or some other reason mich has to play arizona and RR beats the holy hell out of them. Now that would be poetic justice. Now to get back on track GOOOOOO BUCKS
