Lack of experience is killing us right now. Buford is our only senior. We have Sully and Craft who, despite playing like vets, are only sophomores. DT played mostly junk time and some meaningful minutes, and Thompson -the true freshman. There is not a lot of experience on the court.

Fuck every random mediocre guard shooting the lights out against us when we play below average. Also, Meyers Leonard should have nine fouls if the rules were enforced, but that doesn't happen anywhere. I just wish I had confidence in us on a neutral court.

Agreed, or they'll make it as a 12-seed/effective-play-in like they usually do. College basketball just frustrates me so much based on where the game is played.

What is it about this team that so consistently brings out the best in its opponents?
This team just finds ways to lose. Maybe they mature as the year progresses, but at this point, on the road or in neutral sites, these guys lose in the face of adversity.
This team doesn't like playing on the road very much(not that anyone does) That shot was sick, not your night when stuff like that goes down.
Boy, its seems mighty easy to just let Sully take over. You wonder why we don't do that more?

Leadership? Are you kidding me? This kid drains 8/10 threes, most of which were highly contested and you're complaining about leadership? This is the best game he's ever played and will ever play.
It's been lacking all year. To me, it's the single biggest component lost from last year's team (David Lighty).
However, leadership is missing from the team as a whole, and it shows. Who's calming everyone down during crunch time? Who can we depend on when things get rough? Who is leading the team on the court? Who can we trust to make that last second shot? Hint: not William Buford -who should be the leader, as the lone senior on the team.
Lack of leadership is why we cannot close out close games like these. Look at last year: there were a lot of game we squeaked by and won. Why? We had seasoned vets, and leaders on the court who knew how to play those games.
Right now, this team is in the learning process. Coach Matta has said that multiple times throughout the season. Our biggest weakness is our immaturaity. Our younger players don't have a Lighty to learn how to practice, and how to bring it every day. That is where leadership comes into play.
This team just plays dumb at times.

We've only lost six times with Craft... In three of those losses he's done something exactly like that on one of our last gasp possessions to win.
Always was obviously an exaggeration, but when its half of the time the exaggeration is worthy.

I guess I'd be more inclinded to agree with you if you put it that way. It soundedl ike you were attack Craft. So, we lost 6 games with Craft and a few knucklehead turnovers that cost big time. How many did we win due to his heady play and FTs in the last few minutes of games, though?

We didn't lose this on crafts turnover, we lost because the 9 minutes before that we played lazy, had poor transition defense, Buford performed his normal Buford and we continued to show we don't have any perimeter shooting.
We didn't lose on it, but boy it REALLY shut the door. I guess I expect more from a guy who is generally considered to be the best point guard in the Big Ten/maybe country.

Total complacency on a 10 point lead, and they let the Illini walk right back into the game. Hey, guys, maybe after Paul hits his 3rd or 4th 3 someone should be picking him up in transition, you think? Maybe we can exercise a little better shot selection instead of going for and missing 3s of our own. Maybe we can do a little better feeding Sully on the block and put some pressure on their big man, who is creeping into foul trouble...
Or maybe you can crap yourselves again and show the world how you're still a freakin' year away. Unless there is some major change, mark my word, this team gets bounced again in the sweet sixteen.

Sometimes you get talented teams that for one reason or another can't seem to play up to their potential (e.g. Michigan State 2011). It might be time to accept that this is one of them.

Well I'm going to say alot of things here, first of all kudos to Brandon Paul, he outplayed every player on that court tonight. 43 Pts, lights out from 3 point land. Buckeyes didn't have an answer for this kid tonight. Honestly, after watching OSU play like shit on the road basically every time, I don't think they deserve to be ranked in the top 10, and non deserving of a #1 seed in the Big Dance. This team is too young and they need more experience together on road games. Hopefully they are taking notes and are learning from every road loss this season. They won't last in the Big Dance if this continues. This is a very disappointing loss and I'm very upset with how our kids played tonight. If Brandon Paul wasn't on fire tonight, OSU would have come out with a win, but somebody ate their Wheaties this morning.

Matta seriously may need to consider benching Buford just to light a fire under him. Tonight was a fluke in regards to Paul but the inconsistencies of Buford is very troubling. We are a young team and when our senior leader is coming up small in every big game it's going to lead to a quick exit in the tourney like last year. Sully is an All American, Thomas can light it up, Craft is a very good PG and the best defender in CBB but this team will only go as far as Buford takes them.

...I agree and at this point anyway that spells T-R-O-U-B-L-E...Bu can not be relied on at this point and we'd be better off giving him a rest late in games. He's pressing and it shows.

The only comfort I take is that it usually takes career nights from the opposing team's best player (IU excluded) to beat us in the B1G. Last year it was Moore and Taylor. Now it's Paul. The Buckeyes responded nicely to Purdue and Wisc after losses last year. I'm eager to see how they fare against IU and Illinois when they come to Cbus. This team has fallen short of expectations thus far but it's early. The B1G feels like the Big East did the past two years. A lot of good teams who beat up on each other during the regular season but are battle tested come March. Unfortunately, for all the hype about the strength of the Big East going into the tournament last year, the conference fared pretty poorly as a whole, save for UConn. Hopefully, we get hot at the right time like UConn.
I'm concerned but not panicked...yet.
Final numbers for WB: 7/18 shooting, no free throws, 3 rebounds (in 37 minutes), 0 assists and 4 turnovers. Nice senior leadership there.
