I don't think Posey will be a factor. Not because he's rusty but because we show no sign of being able to do the three things necessary for making him a factor: 1) design plays for him, 2) have the o-line protect sufficiently, and 3) have the QB deliver the ball. Earlier in the year Stoneburner was being talked of as best TE in the country. He hasn'tchanged as a player but he's missing in action because we simply can not utilize the receivers we have. (It is quite possible to design a passing attack around the TE rather than a WR - WIS did it a few yers ago with Beckum. The problem is with our offense, not Stoneburner's position. Which will apply to Posey too.) Last week against an average defense we sweated to get 3 TDs because PUR sold out on the run and I expect PSU to do the same. PSU is MUCH better defensively than Purdue. So I'd put our ceiling at around 17 points. Will that be enough to win? perhaps. Will 10, which seems closer to the amount we will score, be enough to win?
The PSU offense has been dysfunctional. Their lone bright star, the RB, is dinged up. But I thiunk they gain by settling on one QB. We were not helped by the ongoing Miller/ Bauser uncertainty, the McGloin/ Bolden soap opera had to have been unhelpful for PSU so I think having one clear starter helps their psyche. Last year McGloin picked us apart in the first half, very nearly giving PSU a big lead before half, then got cocky and fell apart in the second half. If we let PUR and IN pass against us I think McGloin, under orders to not throw INTs, will complete passes against us. Big Hank and Sweat are out, which does not make our defense stronger. So no, I don't think 10 points will be enough to win for us.
Plus, I think PSU is playing to prove the world wrong and I think we're playing because the schedule says we're supposed to. To me this adds up to PSU 14-10 or 14-13. But I have to chose one, right? 14-13 PSU.
