Dispatch Sources Confirm Meyer Next OSU Coach
Sometimes figures of speech related to numbers have a way of working themselves out over time. Two Ohio State sources confirmed to the Columbus Dispatch Wednesday that the lingering hypothetical (emphasis on hypothetical) .03% of doubt in the back of anyone's reasonable minds can all but be put to rest:
Two well-placed sources at Ohio State University confirmed for The Dispatch this morning that Urban Meyer will be announced next week as the next head football coach of the Buckeyes.
But the sources also said final terms for a deal – such as length of contract and financial remuneration – have not been decided, despite recent reports to the contrary. Also, the sources said that though interim head coach Luke Fickell has not been in the loop, he will be taken care of when or if Meyer accepts the job. In what capacity, the sources weren’t sure.
If the Columbus paper isn't good enough for you, just give it time; a press conference sometime next week should placate even the most cynical Doubting Thomas(es) amongst us.

Ten years ago, that may have been possible. In this day and age keeping news like this quiet is pretty much impossible, which = props to 11W (and the like, not to infer there is an equal).
Big deals go down in the business world every day that are kept largely secret. This could have stayed at the simmering rumor level it had been for weeks until after THE GAME. And yes it will affect the players in the week of prep, which does affect performance on the field. Poorly handled PR - must be another Gene Smith special.

While I realize I will get flamed for this post, I just have to provide my honest thoughts and want other's honest opinions as well.
Yes this is a distraction, but in all reality, do you really think this is going to change the outcome of the game? I bleed my scarlet and gray, love the Buckeyes, but I refuse to sit and look at this blindly. We are the worse of the two teams playing Saturday. That's a fact. We have the talent to win, however we really haven't done much of anything to prove we will. I see an Ohio State win only coming if we force turnovers that produce points. While the best rivalry in sports really elevates the level of play from both sides, I don't see us placing ourselves in a position to win. I really hope I'm wrong and will be the first to admit it if I am. The players will come to play their butts off no matter what rumors are swirling.

yeah I don't put a lot of stock in coaching rumor like this affecting the team negatively. I think everyone, including Luke probably knew this was coming. They still love their coach they have now and will play hard for him. The seniors will want to make sure they never lose to Michigan. If the team loses, and it may very well lose, it's not going to be because of rumors about Urban Meyer.
Becoming a forgone conclusion at this point. But for some reason, the same news headlines about Meyer every day this week is the best kind of Groundhog Day you could ask for.
