SUPERFANS

We kid, we kid. We love fans of all schools. Especially the ones that make us laugh the hardest.

But yeah, if you're looking for something to pass the time ahead of Ohio State's tipoff, you can't go wrong tuning into the SEC or ACC championship games: Three blue bloods and a hot Gator team. Oh, Dayton also takes on Richmond. Go Flyers!

Ugh. Hearing Dickie V commentate a Duke game is up there with "SEC SPEEEEED".

A Duke - North Carolina game at that...

I think the college sports world is becoming too educated to deal with people like him and Digger. I know it's just a gimmick, but it's intolerable. Gimmie more Bilas and Clark.

JakeBuckeye's picture

He's fine commentating-wise as long as he isn't slobbering over one team, which is most of the time.

Reens's picture

See he bothers me even just as commentator. I'd rather listen to Bob Knight break down the play with some insight instead of just screaming like a banchee. We have Gus Johnson for that.

Reens's picture

Heck yeah he is. I'd watch thumb wrestling if he was announcing it.

Bilas is quite an idiot.  I have to agree with my fellow blue-blooded fanatics.  There's a lot of disdain for Jay Bilas, and I share most of it.

On the other hand, you might think that there'd be a lot of natural Michigan antipathy for Clark Kellogg of The Ohio State University.  And actually, I see almost none of that.  I like Clark Kellogg; he's good.  I don't know if he's the best analyst in NCAABB, but he's good and he's notably unbiased and fair-minded.  He's too easy on crummy B1G refs; that's my gripe with Kellogg.  So, you can gimme more Kellogg, and less Bilas.

I think every commentator is too easy on B1G refs while on air.

MMan, Q: did you feel Carr was unfairly forced out? Would you rather have kept him or hired Rich Rod?
Thought about asking you this during my run today.
I hated byt respected Carr, hated and pitied Rich Rod.

No, no, no; every Michigan insider knows very very well -- Lloyd Carr was not forced out of anything at all.  Lloyd actually stayed a bit longer than he had planned.  It is such an omnipresent rumor, it seems silly not to say it; Lloyd, it is widely understood, got a diagnosis of Parkinson's some years ago.  The story roamed around every corner of Ann Arbor, it was reputedly used in negative recruiting against Michigan, etc., etc.  The rumor has been in print, in the blogosphere, etc.  I didn't start it; I don't need to confirm it or deny it or explain it.  (I've seen Lloyd recently and he looks good and shows no outward signs of Parkinson's.)

Irrespective of rumors (not to mention HIPAA-privacy violations), Carr and former AD Bill Martin both acknowledge that Carr stayed an additional year at Martin's request.  Carr was not forced out at all, much less "unfairly forced out."

I liked Carr.  I was not at all surprised by his retirement.  Every insider knew it was coming.  I was at first surprised by the Rodriguez hire.  But I grew to like and admire Rodriguez a lot, and I am still mad over how he was treated and dismissed.  If I were the AD, I'd have given Rodriguez a contract extension, and would have figured out a way to make Jeff Casteel our DC.

As you can imagine, I'm not representative of anything other than a smallish clan of Michigan fans.  Indeed, when we were playing in the Gator Bowl, my overriding thoughts were with Earle Bruce's last Michigan game.  I thought that the In Rod We Trust faction would be more visible, including among the players (who I am sure were not generally happy in losing their coaching staff).

Thanks for the input. Stuff rambles around my head while I run.

Bilas is quite an idiot.

That seems wildly overstated.  Is this a Michigan/Duke thing?

Is this a Michigan/Duke thing?

At least in part, yes.

I'm only supporting you on your Clark comment as I don't dig Bilas too much.  I can tolerate him more than the others.  I know I'm in the minority but Gus Johnson is just annoying at this point.  When he and that guy that played at UNLV were doing our game I had to mute the TV.  They exaggerated every syllable in every word.  PAtheTIC!  It's like Gus is trying to bring excitement to every little thing and it is way over the top and annoying.

I tried watching, but just can't with Vitale.

I may be in the minority here, but for Ohio State games I think I like the game threads like this. I know I don't matter if the live blog was well recieved though.

I thought the live blog was interesting but I think I'm with you on the threads.  This way we can post replies and don't miss anything.

I don't click on anything Yahoo related.  Does anyone mind explaining what this is?

A story describing how "relentless" Ohio State fans forced Herbstreit to leave the state...which is BS because if that were the case all he would have to do is move to a new location within the state. Ohio's pretty big.

Colin's picture

The way I try to think of it with stories like these...some thousands or so people will read it, a couple hundred comment on it. But apart from that small fraction of the population, no one else really cares. And so I won't. People will always hate us.

sadly..i kinda feel for him...i actually understand it and how it goes along with his career field
