When you Google "Saturday Night's (Alright For Fighting)", you see multiple lyric pages attribute it to... Nickelback. Le sigh.
I'm afraid this evening's affairs are some what of a Nickelback's "Saturday Night's (Alright For Fighting)", though Arizona-Stanford is mighty tasty if you're fortunate enough to get it (or have ESPN3.com access; now on XBOX360 for everyone not on Time Warner!)
None the less, it's about that time to pre-game for the night at hand. Enjoy your evening, be responsible/make good decisions, but know that Penn State is but a week away. See y'all on the other side of the bye-week: O-H

I hate bye weeks...need my buckeye fix.
I couldn't be more pleased that we're going to have a hot Penn State team coming to town next weekend. I'm desperate for a win that I can at least call "decent."
October 20th: National Kenneth Guiton Day
I think the Miami win is "decent". Nothing more, nothing less. They're a two-loss football team with their starting QB.
I consider that win decent as well. But its been a while since then, and with Illinois losing today I think we may have lost that win, so I'm ready for another solid win.

i think a PSU win is solid as far as we're concerned, but the polls aren't gonna help us unless we beat iowa
I'm just glad JoePa won't be breaking another milestone against us. That game pissed me off a few years ago. Now time for a letdown from them. Iowa looks very beatable now. If our defense can't play as good as Indiana's, we won't deserve to win.

Is anyone else skeptical of Andrew Luck's arm strength? I mean Chad Pennington was successful in the NFL so you don't need a Mallet cannon, but he's just lofting balls up. This is the first I've watch him play.
A little bit. He's not like Matt Leinart or anything, but he has great size and surprising quickness. He's like a smaller Rapelisberger.
Jamarcus Russell has a really strong arm!

No matter how sh*tty the tour is, it's always tough to leave.
Right. I kinda think arm strength is overrated as a factor when evaluating QBs, as Howitzers like Russell and pea shooters like Leinart have both failed at roughly the same rate.
Pennington was successful? Maybe Montana would be a better example there.

Huh? Isn't Bob Stoops the greatest....college....coach....ever?
Really looks like Oregon will play for the title this year, and possibly vs. TCU, if Bama beats Auburn.
Oregon/TCU MNC = least watched championship ever.

Im so tired of "the season is a playoff" excuse for not having an actual playoff. This shit is actually starting to turn me off of CFB. With the 80 scholly limit and all the national coverage even the smaller schools get, it's just harder and harder every year to run the table against a legit schedule.

I understand the frustration, but college football's champion has always been picked pretty F'd up. I used to get bothered by it, but you know what, all I do is enjoy watching my team and other games every week. The game itself is still great. To me, nothing can spoil that. I refuse to be disappointed about my team ending the season with 1 or 2 losses. It's not easy to have 10 or more wins in big time college football every year. That's what this team is doing and if it's not good enough to make a championship so be it. It doesn't take away from the great team we are lucky enough to watch each week.
It's also hard to run hot for 3 (or 4) weeks against tough teams too. How often does the best NFL team over 17 weeks get bounced by an inferior team that gets lucky one game? The biggest issue is the vastly different strengths of schedules. The major conferences generally are close enough that if you run the table in one, it's not *that* much easier than any other. Then teams like Boise and TCU come along, play no one all year (and blow them out), and it's quite unfair to teams that actually play a schedule.
However, with a playoff, it's almost always guaranteed to end the season being disappointed. Last season, while there were disappointments, ended on a huge positive note and we can call it a very successful season. In a playoff, every team but 1 ends up feeling down at the end. I play a lot of poker tournaments, and even if I cash in 2nd place for a good amount of money, I still will be incredibly frustrated I didn't win. The win-it-all mentality is not very healthy in a sport where there are a ton of good teams every year.

Penn State is terrible. I dont see how that would be that great of a win. They stink
I didn't say "great win" or anything of the sort. I said it would be a decent, solid win.

Braxton Miller killed my Middletown Middies dream tonight but there a team full of sophmores so they will be back next year.

What was his stat line?

Millers stats weren't real eye popping, but he had a couple electrifying runs when the team needed it. i think he scored 2 of Waynes Td's.

Middletowns nerves got the best of them, plus you have to have a more well rounded offensive attack to win in Div1. On one play, Middletowns soph QB ran backward 30 yds trying to elude defenders and was dropped for the loss.

Back to OSU football. Lesmarises' starting D next year:
Tyler Moeller even more valuable. Here's what the Buckeyes' starting defense could look like next year.
DE Nathan Williams
DT Johnathan Hankins*
DT John Simon
DE Adam Bellamy*
SLB Jon Newsome/Dorian Bell*
MLB Etienne Sabino*
WLB Andrew Sweat
CB Dionte Allen*
CB Travis Howard*
S C.J. Barnett**
S Orhian Johnson
Star Tyler Moeller
* New starter ** Barnett started three games this season before suffering a season-ending injury and being replaced by Orhian Johnson -- Doug Lesmerises

The linebacker camp battles should be good, with Storm Klein pushing for a starting spot too. And Christian Bryant will be back, so he'll share Star and maybe corner time too. It'll also be nice to have an experienced corner in Dionte Allen (who has already received multiple PotW awards).
I didn't think the whole line-up looked too bad. Hopefully not a big drop off. Depth is probably the biggest issue.

Well, thats a 12 men on the field penalty right off the bat!

We should see a nice jump today in the polls, maybe to number 8? Nice to see Alabama, Utah, and Oklahoma go down.
I hope you're right but the polls have been unkind to us over the last few weeks. We should go up in the polls but not by three. I think Stanford, with a big win over a meh Arizona, will jump us in both the human and computer polls. And LSU, already ahead of in the BCS, will jump us in the human polls too. Meanwhile, any credit we were getting for the Illinois win suddenly went out the window. On the bright side, Iowa stands to go up in the rankings so if/when we beat them, we should get a bit of a boost. Not that the rankings really matter for us anymore. Just win out.
As for the defensive projections for next year, I can live with that. A lot of raw talent, but still talent no less. As long as TP is back, we'll contend. Boren is the only guy I'll miss on offense. I like Saine and I'm sorry his career hasn't been stellar, but we need to make some room for the new guys.
The polls are unkind to us, yet we are way ahead in the polls vs. the computers. If anything, we have been overrated in the polls. Our best wins are Miami and Illinois. Whoopdedoo.

Any one know if The main Schott parking lot will be open to the general public for todays exibition game vs walsh? Trying to figure out parking before I head out.
If it makes you feel any better, I don't get ESPN on my XBOX Live service either because Orbitel Communications isn't a supported sponsor. Sucks too, I get to pay the higher annual premium for services I cannot utilize.
