A heartland treasureWe're not sure how far Paul Johnson and his Yellow Jackets will extend their streak of 22 straight possessions without punting, but we do know that tonight's Orange Bowl matchup between Iowa and Georgia Tech represents a girdiron ACC/Big Ten Challenge as each conference enters with a 3-3 mark.
Johnson wants to force Stanzi to win the game through the air but that could be courting disaster as there's nothing that kid enjoys more than throwing bombs for touchdowns. If he can avoid a start like he had against the Hoosiers, putting points on the board early is the best way to neutralize Tech's offense. If not, Iowa still has the horses (and toughness) on defense to slow the option and give the Hawkeyes a shot at the end. Either way, we like the Big Ten to go 2-0 in ACC challenges, real or otherwise.

Iowa had the ball with 53 seconds left, needing 30 yards to be in field goal range. I'M even willing to say they should have beaten us.
OSU represents extremely well as analysts but they have to not show bias so I think Herbie and Eddie often bend over backwards to give other Big Ten teams or opponents props.
Iowa is showing some offense to validate his point about this game, though.

If Iowa can put up a big win against these guys it will definitely help the Buckeyes in the final rankings. We, um, beat them.

We need Iowa to win this and they are dominating right now. So teams above us already knocked out include Cincinnati, TCU, and Oregon. There's no way we should be lower than number five right now.

if Iowa can score a TD here it would really hurt Tech. They wouldn't be able to run the triple option, they'd be forced to throw more which would be bad news for any jackets fans out there.

I used to think that Brett Bielema was the dumbest coach in football, but Ferentz is giving him a run for his money. First he sends his non-speedy kicker on an end run for a fake FG, and the guy nearly gets his knee splintered when he can't turn the corner. Then his defense forces GT to punt from the end zone, and somehow he forgets to have a short return man to field what will almost certainly be a short punt. As a result, his return man lets the punt bounce and loses about 15-20 yards of field position. Sheesh.

Big Ten's supposed "lack of speed" blanketed Oregon's "fast" receivers and the "elusive" Jeremiah Masoli to his worst game ever. Penn State outran LSU in the mud, as did Wisconsin against the "lightning fast" Miami. Even Northwestern put up big offensive numbers against Auburn and might have won that one if their kicker weren't injured on a horrible roughing play and forced them to go for two. Minnesota lost by one point.
Going 4-0 against top 15 teams has only happened one other time in the BCS era. Guess by who?

Great bowl season for the Big Ten. Here is a question though...if Ohio State loses the Rose Bowl and all other Big Ten teams win to go 6-1 in bowl games, are we celebrating for the Big Ten? NOPE.
If this doesn't show why we need a playoff, nothing does. You can't tell me based on what we saw from The OSU an Iowa's D that they couldn't make it very far in a playoff. Same for Boise. 14-0 and sitting around watching TX-Bama play for the national championship. The BCS will be finished by 2014.
