Week 10 Open Thread
Mack DaddyThe Buckeyes are off, but there are two fantastic games pitting top 10 ranked teams and we also will know more about how good Minnesota and Michigan State (also known as Ohio State’s best wins) really are.
We’ll be taking the weekend off to get to know our wives again, but feel free to dump any thoughts, insights, observations and frustrations in the comments below.

I want to be the first to express how much I hate bye weeks. Instead beers and Buckeyes I’m left with chores and family bullshit. Now I have to work another full fucking week before I see the Buckeyes play? Horse shit.
I hear you Tyler, Saturday’s just aren’t the same without the Bucks playing. However, my liver needed a bye week as well, so not all is lost.
Ever consider a spinoff site: elvenwarriors.com? Little people wearing scarlet and grey…
Um, if OSU don’t hang 50 on Michigan, they should be disappointed.
I’m going to sound like an idiot, but oh well…
I have watched Michigan play a few times this year and I don’t understand how they don’t get called for more false starts. Rich Rod and the Michigans offense will change plays when they are lined up at the line. Threet and the ENTIRE team (Line included) will stand up and look over at Rich and the 2nd and 3rd string QB to get the play.
To me it looks like the line is set and I don’t understand how they don’t get a false start for standing up and checking the play? Does anyone have a better understanding of how this works? Do they “get away with it” because the line never puts a hand on the turf?
Please try not to point and laugh….
Joe Tiller just sold the Michigan secondary some snake oil.
… When was the last time you saw a Hook and F’n Ladder work to win the game – OMG!!! ( When not watching Varsity Blues )
Boise State used the hook and ladder to tie the game
Is there anything Gary Danielson wouldn’t do to Matt Stafford in the bedroom?
MSP – probably not
Also, anyone watching the Florida-Georgia game and wishing our offense and defense played with the speed of either two teams? If our coordinators were this aggressive, we might not be a national joke.
I hate Boise State.
Georgia: The Ohio State of the South
damn, how about how bad M sucks this year? reminds me of 1988 for us.
I don’t want to sound like an SEC partisan, but Florida looks like the best team in America right now. If they win out and beat Bama in the title game, it’ll be a crime if Penn State makes the title game over them.
obv. talking about Bama in the conference title game, PSU in the nat’l one
How about Texas Tech right now? 12-0 in the 2nd. Forced a safety on Mr. Heisman Hopeful.
That’ll help PSU’s case.
I really have a hard time swallowing the idea that there’s a talent discrepancy between us, and the SEC or big 12 powers. The number of guys we have floating around the nfl attest to that.
So, why do their offenses look that much smoother?
Our defense played as well as any in the nation saturday against penn state. Once heacock decided the zone doesn’t work like it used to, I’ll take ohio states defense over any in the nation.
So, the problem is obviously in the offense, and if it’s not talent, it’s coaching, it’s play calling.
I’m stating the obvious here (to everyone except those in power to do something about it), but here’s 5 things that need to happen, to consider the off season a success.
1. Bollman – out. The O-line is an embarrassment, and woody hayes is spinning in his grave. That’s enough justification to replace the offensive line coach. Get someone young, tough, and psycho.
2. The split O-coord/O-line coach needs to be given up. we can definitely afford another paycheck, so hire a new offensive coordinator. This should be someone the exact polar-opposite of Jim Tressel. The way it works now is bollman suggests a couple of plays, tressel picks. that system works, we beat who we should, tressel is the best coach in the nation when playing with a lead. We need someone to say “hey, it’s first down, go deep, it’ll be fun.”
3. With the new coaches, the offense needs retooled. Somewhere on this site it was pointed out that we don’t have a bread and butter formation. Absolutely true. Make it the buckeye pistol, and run 90% of our plays out of it. Execute, execute, execute. with familiarity will come the speed and smoothness you see at texas. or texas tech, they run an assload of plays, but they’re all out of the shotgun. one formation, lots of routes and wrinkles.
4. while revamping the offensive side of the ball, i think we need a big name S&C coach. with the fame of barwis and guys like that, it’ll be needed as a recruiting draw, and could only help.
5. tress definitely need to focus on damage control, and not have any decommitments. hate to lose any of those kids coming in.
Wow can we get Texas Tech’s o-line??
This is a domination of a first half
Texas Tech is a real team? wow.
There is no talent discrepancy between us and the top teams in the Big 12 and the SEC. There is a difference between having speed and playing with it. Ohio State has speed to spare. It just doesn’t use it, at all, on either side of the ball. It’s both a scheme (zone coverage) and personnel (slow TEs, possesion WRs like Hartline) issue
That… was… awesome.
unbelievable catch and TD by Crabtree… unreal freakin real
one of the greatest endings to a game I have ever seen
Fan-fuckin’-tastic.
Texas freaking Tech. What a ballgame. Texas showed approximately 200 tons of heart by coming back in that game, but it just wasn’t enough. Incredible game.
Well, here we go again with the “undefeateds” dropping like flies. Who’s next? Okie State? Alabama? Texas Tech?
I think PSU has a clear shot at the NC.
Kudos to Texas Tech. I always thought they were just a gimmicky team who didn’t play defense and couldn’t run the ball. They were impressive and Graham Harrell is definitely in the heisman discussion. Anybody but Tebow! Please!
After watching that game you can’t deny Texas is the home of the best football talent in the nation. The Gators are likely to make a strong case for playing in Miami if they win the SEC. Penn State would hardly give any of those teams problems.
I can already hear the controversy brewing.
Jimmy J –
Penn St is not a bad team by any stretch of the imagination, but they are not as good as Texas, Texas Tech, FL, and maybe Alabama. I don’t think it would be a shame to put a one loss Fl team in over penn st, unless the voters do so only to punish them for our play the last three years. That would be a BS reason.
But, if people honestly believe that a one-loss FL team is better than penn st, I wouldn’t argue. In fact, I would agree completely and therefore, I believe that FL would deserve to be in the title game over Penn st. If the object is to get the two best teams in the game – not just the two undefeated teams from a BCS conference – then FL should go over Penn ST, barring some shocking events.
Wow it didn’t take long long to get them angry in Austin.

Apparently they have fans who prefer the knee jerk reaction as well.
Penn State picked the wrong week to be idle.
I feel sorry for them.
Ted Ginn having a pretty nice game again today. Dude is a threat.
What about my elvenwarriors.com idea?!
{squelch Gatorpilot}
GP, ironically, that’s what one of my nerdier coworkers calls the site.
