JT: Boeckman, Pryor to Split Snaps 50/50 Saturday

As Mitch G noted, Tressel has announced Terrelle Pryor will split snaps 50/50 with Todd Boeckman in Saturday's matchup with Troy.

Pryor will also receive the majority of snaps with the one's in practice so his progress can be better determined.

Hallelujah. Hopefully, the plan is to call plays where he needs to look downfield and survey who's open versus the short, safe routes called for him thus far. We already know he can run. It's time for him to begin training on being a true QB.

Why not? I do not think playing him more Saturday really would have changed much, but this will alter the future for the better, I believe.

First step in the right direction... hopefully JT isn't stubborn enough to make more changes. This team will really go down the crapper if he thinks that all that happened on saturday were "just minor problems". Is he really that oblivious, or does he think that we're actually gonna buy into this bullshit? That's insulting to any idiots intelligence.

I agree Chuck, playing Pryor more on Saturday would not have changed the outcome of the game (maybe we score a TD at least though), however this is step in the right direction for the future.

Playing Boeckman this year simply because he is a 9th year senior is simply not acceptable anymore. I hate to come down so hard on Boeckman, however he is simply not a big time QB, and he has proved that between the Michigan game, the LSU game and the USC game.

Pryor is the future, give him the necessary experience in the Big Ten this season. Not even to mention the fact that Pryor most likely gives the best chance of winning.

Also, just want everyone to keep in mind that we all want Pryor to start and play NOW, remember this when he throws 3 picks and fumbles in Madison...lol...however I like to think we are educated fans who understand the growing pains that will encompass starting a true freshman at QB.

I'm more than willing to accept TP's mistakes even if he costs us a game because the goal is to win titles. This year is shot, so let's get ready for next year.

I hate that I'm so unimpressed that we could become the first team to ever win 4 straight Big Ten outright titles (or whatever that stat is) but it just seems a little overhyped to do that considering the state of the conference during that span.

We still need to win the Big Ten this year. Just because the conference is down doesn't mean we shouldn't care about winning it. What will it say about Ohio State if we can't win a watered down Big Ten? So what, our conference sucks this year, at least we can be the best of the suckiest.

The Todd should be benched for loafing and not making any effort to tackle Super Fly Snuka after he threw that pick.

i don't know if you've been paying attention (first off...huge depressed ohio state fan) but in terms of teams left everbody should be honestly scared of penn state. i've heard nothing but good things about them so far and wisconsin is still a force. As of now they are forces but of course if we go out and beat them everybody will consider them shitty teams but as it stands right now they are going to be tough

Hats off to JT for giving TP more opportunity to lead this team. I think he is a competitor. The bigger issue to me is that of the O line. Our offensive line play has just been plain offensive to watch. I fell like Tress needs to take this a step further and open up the competition for all the jobs on the O line. None of them have played well so far this season, including Boone. It's time to see who wants to compete. Somebody needs to show me some attitude and fire. I haven't seen any so far this season.

Pryor compeltely changes the equation... he may run, or he may throw....... wow, what a concept... now the opposing defenses cannot just take off after the QB...... Loyalty is admirable, because most people don't value it. However, if you can't repay loyalty with results then it is time to move on. Thank you TODD for greyshirting and for hanging around for 6 years, but Terrelle has already proven he is a better QB and it is time to get him ready to be the starting QB. Boeckman has had more than ample opportunity to squash his competition and he did not do it. Best players must play at all positions.... Same goes for ass't coaches... thanks Bollman and Heacock and Fickell... you had your chances, we appreciate you time and loyalty but it is time to go in a different direction. Lane Kiffen will be available soon after he is fired from the Raiders... there is a good place to start. Dig into the NFL and get a offensive coordinator who is hungry and eager to make a name for himself....... our coordinators are at the end of their careers and stuck in the Old ways of doing business.

Wow, again I have to hear about how pathetic Boeckman is... Well sorry to say but it's our O-line and receivers. How can you judge a QB's ability to pass when he has 1.8 seconds before a DT/DE/LB is all up in his stink? Look at the game again and see who was playing terrible. O-line - no push... D-line -pushed all over... USC RBs had 10ft holes to run through (No exaggeration).

Benopp - Therein lies the problem. The Todd, for all the early 07' (1907?) talk of "hey, he's faster in the 40 than Troy Smith" has the agility and quicks of an oil rig.

Terrelle, already, can sidestep that first guy while keeping his eyes downfield and keeping a play alive. The Todd, bless him, acts like he's recovering a fumble at the first sign of trouble - folds right up into an Everlast Bag.

Pryor is exactly the kind of qb that can mitigate the impact of spotty OL play. He'll make mistakes, certainly, but he'll also make plays. When's the last time The Todd truly made a play? I really can't remember.

The O-Line sucked... but that's not the only reason why TODD wasn't good, he's just not talented. Pryor had good stats for as little snaps that he got, even with the crappy O-Line. So even if the O-Line sucks, the QB needs to step it up... something that TODD didn't and Terelle did. Hence, TODD sucks and needs to be benched.

Only problem is if Terrelle does badly. So much for going to Ohio State to "not be the man" right away.

Too talented..... um... um..... have you looked at int-td ratio?? Boeckman peaked mid last year and he has hit his ceiling... he has regressed. He panics under pressure, looks directly at his receivers, underthrows deep passes, holds onto the ball way too long, funbles when hit.... A good man no doubt, but should be carrying a clip board. There were no other alternatives at QB last year (Too Bad Henton got busted with the hooker) and Terrelle only got a small number of snaps, so there is the problem. Pryor will at least be able to keep a play alive, take easy yards running when they are given, and will be able to keep the defenses honest. If we lose a couple this year, so be it but it will aid in Pryor's development for next season. Pryor's coming out party this saturday!!!!!!!

This 50/50 split is just the beginning. Todd will look progressively more pedestrian as Pryor gets more comfortable with the offense.

He'll have the job to himself within three weeks.

We better not fuck around too much because the other men from Troy can play ball. They throw the ball around and score a lot of points. I hope we don't drop two in a row.

Looking at this week's depth chart, I'm asking myself some of the same questions I was asking during the SC game: WHERE'S POSEY, FLASH, AND WASHINGTON? Are you trying to tell me that Dane, a 5'11'', 180 pound stick, should be ahead of Posey, a 6'3'', 200 pound stud WR?

Another thing: I know having too much talent is a good thing. We're a deep team and consequently, not everyone will get as much time. But, as has been talked about over and over again on this blog, JT is clearly not utilizing all of our talent, and it seems as if the coaching staff (moreso the coordinators) is incapable of getting the best 11 out onto the field in the right situations. For instance, why the fuck is Abdallah still playing? If he hasn't gotten it by now, he never will. Slide Heyward inside with Larimore/Rose, and start Gibson on the edge. In camp, some players called Gibson quite possibly the fastest player on the team. Yet, he has seen very little time. Unbelievable.
