Tressel just announced Beanie's a no-go for tomorrow.
"He (Wells) would cut his foot off for these guys, but I just don't think as I listen to the medical people it would be the right thing to do," Tressel said of playing Wells. "I'm not sure he'll ever speak to me again, but I think it's the right thing to do, so we won't have Beanie tomorrow."
Searching for a silver lining...At least the players know now that he won't play versus finding out tomorrow at kickoff.
Update: FWIW, Herbstreit just said on ESPN he's shocked to hear Beanie won't play after seeing Beanie smiling giving no indication he wouldn't go during walk through. Herbie went on to say he's still not convinced Beanie won't play.

Think NTG against Miami...Krenzel keepers. Boekman up the middle.
i kind of assumed that this was gonna be the case before the whole "ITS A GAME TIME DECISION GUYS HE'LL BE OKAY" shit started.
good call by Tressel, we've got a Big 10 championship to win and it's not worth it to screw up Beanie's foot just to win one OOC game, no matter how big. hopefully we roll out some crazy wing t shit tomorrow with boom and saine and pryor and blow people's minds
Defense needs to step up. They hold USC to 14-17 points and it's anybody's game.
Think TB to TP ... oh wait, that would mean changing the game plan ... not what JT is capable of doing
JT is a retard and will cost us this game himself, again
Bup Bup Bup, good call with the wing back it could be our best shot. If we can stop them and get some turnovers it will take some pressure off boeckman. Also just having Pryor on the field helps up take pressure off boeckman. There are alot of things you can do out of the wing t or double wing that would be scary with all the speed. Boom/M. Wells/Pryor/Flash/Saine One of them need to step up big and I think we have alot of plays for Saine and Pryor coming up.
Defensive wise we need to stop big plays and hold them to 3 when they move it. Ball control might be the way to go with short passes to the backs and tight ends but we need to take some shots down field to open some holes for Boom and Zoom. I still think we will see beanie but time will tell.
All I want is for a running back to not go down the first moment he is hit by a USC defensive player. If Boom or Saine can shake off some tacklers, I think we could have a shot to build some momentum.
I just hope this means Pryor is going to take upwards of 20-25 snaps. Make it so. If we're going to lose, let's at least lose by opening up every weapon we got.
Got anymore Song Girl photos?
Let me say this: JT is good with people and this is another instance. He does care. I must give him that. If I am going to criticize him (which I do) I must compliment him when he is right. Good Job JT.
While he lacks the X's and O's, he is a good people person, no doubt
I know have more faith in this team ... the rally tomorrow
OK JT apologists, what will you say when we go three and out the first drive with Mo Wells running it twice for -2 yards. will you still claim JT has half a brain??? I bet you do. In fact, I bet you do the following
1. silently wonder why the hell Herron has zero carries at the half
2. then come on here and rip those that questionm the decision

Chuck, where were we before JT? If you forget, let me remind you: John Cooper. If you're such a brilliant football mind, then you should be coaching the Buckeyes; but you aren't, and you're not, and that's the end of that.
Yeah, Kirk H. may be 'shocked,' but he says he saw Beanie walking around smiling during the walkthrough. Tress knows that this is a media hot-button item, and its very likely that he told Beanie what his decision was about 4 seconds before he told the team, about 4 seconds before he told the media. So Beanie very well may not have known he wasn't playing through that whole walkthrough. Beyond this, I'm worried we won't see Beanie playing for even a few more weeks down the road. In the last 14 days he's had what, 20 carries in practice? And that gives him too much soreness and (I'm assuming) swelling to go and even be 75%? This recovery may lead well into Big 10 season.
And in other news, regardless whether I'm a JT apologist I'm not going to be blasting anybody tomorrow because its a damn football game and some people take shit way too seriously. If the Buckeyes suck major ass tomorrow...well, that's life, and there's far more important things to spend my life fretting about. Shit, I'd rather spaz about how I'm going to have the cash to send my kids to college in 16 years. Don't get me wrong, I'm no fairweather fan...I rooted just as hard for OSU when they were 6-6 as I did in 2002. I just didn't go drink myself into oblivion and let those 6 losses foul my entire week when the Buckeyes didn't pull out a W.
Amen Matt! And I made $19,200 last year with a family of four (grad student FTW). That's a far cry from, well, you get the idea.
Yer on it, dirty6. Tressel told the team right after the walk-through.
Chris Wells' health and longterm career is more important to Tress than this game. For that, I give him credit. My inclination would be to throw him out there at any kind of health because we NEED this win. I could care less about the shit Big 10 right now, and I'm pretty confident we could beat any team in the conference without Beanie.
This whole situation is God Damned frustrating.
Amen Dirty! I am a Buckeye win or lose. I gaurantee that every kid on the field tomorrow night will be giving their all, and we should be proud of them, no matter the outcome. We have been spoiled the last 20 years, to the point where we think a 12-1 or 11-2 season is a failure. I was proud of us under John Cooper, and even prouder under Coach Tressel! GO BUCKS!!!
Soreness? Come on. It's more than that. That's what painkillers are for. Get some ice/cortisone for the swelling. Broken bone? Torn ligament?
The eve of destruction
Can anyone find a video of this interview? From what a friend of mine just reported to me Coach Tressel appeared very emotional. Reading is one thing, seeing is another, I'd like to find this online...
I bet Beanie plays. It's all a ruse to throw off USC.
It sucks, but please. Ohio State will give its best. If you want to cry, cry. We won't miss you. It is going to be a good night, win or lose. If you want to crush Jim Tressel, remember things could be worse. I'm on the things could be worse horse. God bless the Bucks. Malcom night kill somebody.
I'm going to motherfucking graduate. Spring commencement.
How could you blame Tress for Wells' foot? That's ridiculous.
We don't know what the injury really is. It all seems odd with Wells saying he could tote the rock 45 times. A day later he is 75% to doubtful to "out". Crazy.
I think it's more than just soreness. Soreness is nothing.
You're danged right its more than 'soreness.' Last year when Beanie had a bum ankle Tress basically told Beanie to suck it up and deal with the pain, 'be a warrior,' and he did it. This is much more than something that can be handled with a 'pain shot.'
Here's the Video.

I agree, i think thats about a emotional as I've seen Tressel in a long time. This has to be hard on him, he really loves these guys.
^ Nice find, Matt.
Tress looked really down in that clip. You could tell it was a very hard decision for him to make.
I'm w/ Chris - if an inspired effort by the defense can keep USC to 14-17 points, anything at all can happen, especially if the O responds well to the crisis.
Here's a prediction: if we win tomorrow (and thus keep our MNC hopes alive), we get Beanie back in 6-8 weeks (assuming we win all the other ones too, and assuming he doesn't need surgery ) for a tuneup or two, Michigan, and the championship game. If we lose tomorrow(or if we lose any others before Beanie gets back), he takes a medical redshirt.
Also: I'm sort of on board w/ the idea of Chuck's comments, even though he's making them in a really dickish fashion. Last week's 4th down attempt at running Mo Wells into the line was a very - how shall I put this? - Lloyd Carr-type playcall...the mentality of it is that, by God, we OUGHT to be able to do this (despite 3+ years of seeing Mo Wells NOT be able to do it), so we're by God GOING to do it. It's not by a long shot the only time that sort of thing's happened in the Tressel era, either.
I love the Senator to death, but I'm guessing that his game plan without Beanie isn't very different than the one he had with Beanie. And if it doesn't work - if we're deep into the 2nd quarter, let's say, and the pressure is getting to Boeckman, and the receivers aren't getting open, and Boom/Brandon/Mo aren't getting any traction - he'll probably just keep on trying to MAKE it work rather than switching on the fly to something COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. Like throwing endless 15-20 yarders to the TEs (who both have excellent hands) until USC's safeties and LBs HAVE to lay back and open up the run a little, like end-arounds and reverses, and FAKE reverses w/ LiC keeping, etc. A wide-open, throw-caution-to-the-wind type offense. If the "regular" game plan's not working, why not? Jebus, what are all those QB/receiver workouts over the summer for? Are there no non-"standard" playcalls in the book?
What I'm getting at, again, is that there's a real Lloyd Carr-type streak in JT's coaching style, and it's not just the classy-guy (as long as you're not a zebra or Mike Bellotti) thing - it's a sort of old-school stubbornness where the game plan says (hypothetically) "1. Establish the ability to run off-tackle", and there's no willingness or ability to implement other things when "1." isn't working until it's too late.
Or maybe I'm an idiot, who knows. One thing I can say for sure is that I've wanted for a long time for Bollman to be gone. A really top-flight OC w/ more modern (for lack of a better word) ideas on what to do w/ our athletes would be nice, and wouldn't be hard at all to acquire. If Bollman doesn't want to be demoted to OL coach only, what the hell - those guys can't be hard to find either. His leaked comment about TP facing pressure last Saturday was very damning in my book.
[...] number one goal on the day, of course, is to not allow the bad news to drive you to drink so much and so early that you miss the kickoff. The 8PM kickoff is a way off, [...]
Let's just see what happens. I have a feeling Tressel's had this game in the back of his mind for 8 months and has a few things planned. Maybe I'm crazy, but I expect us to come out swinging and throw caution to the wind - at least moreso than usual - especially with Beanie out.
With the oddsmakers/experts calling for an ass-kicking even before Beanie was put on the shelf, the players should know they have nothing to lose which hopefully means they'll play a little more loose than we've seen.
This is a good move on Tressell's part. If you think you can't win without Beanie and he's a go, all he needs is one little scrape in the first quarter and the team is demoralized if/when he leaves the field. If Tressell tells the team that they can win, and that everyone needs to step up their game without Beanie in order to accomplish the victory, then the Beanie factor is removed.
Game on, you L.A. Beetches. Play ball!!
GO Bucks!!!
Balls.
GO BUCKS! I live in LA and trust me, I hate USC. I was looking forward to our chances, but without beanie and with the chances that Tressel will use Mo instead of Herron concerns me a great deal!
I wish our bucks the best...Purdue is kicking ass against the Ducks and I hope we do our Bucks proud...I thought this was gonna be our year, but will see...GO BUCKS!
