Hater Nation
Give me one of your tots!Bob Hunter had a pretty interesting piece in yesterday’s Dispatch about the current state of national hate following the program. He shared a Barton quote that sums up what we’ve all seen plenty of online:
“In all likelihood we will be the underdogs, because we know that pretty much everyone on Earth hates us.”
I usually take it with a grain of salt online. College football fandom has nearly reached the ridiculous level of politics to the point of “If your guy does it, think of the children!! However, if it’s my guy, it’s overblown and things are under control.”
Gordon Gee took his turn at running some smack when Hunter asked him about the hate:
“.. hate would not be the word I would use. Admiration. Fear. Jealousy. Envy. Try those words.”
Buckeye fans can certainly be obnoxious, but these days, trash comes in all colors.
Meanwhile, the DDN reports that fans are just as cautious as we are heading into the Championship.

The only thing less likeable than an OSU fan is a UND fan. Congrats on being in such “elite’ company.
i think somewhere in between OSU fans and ND fans are fans of every SEC school actually
(Please use all the sarcasm possible when reading this….and if you can’t muster up enough then find someone that can so they can read it to you.)
Are you serious Mike H? SEC fans are the best! Always classy, never homers, and the only people that are smart enough to realize that an SEC team with 3 losses is much more deserving of a shot at the National Title than an undefeated team from any other BCS conference!
I can speak from firsthand experience that fans of SEC schools are insufferable mouthbreathing monsters who, without the benefit of their pom-poms, would be incapable of expression at football games. Hiding behind this new Noble Lie of SEC Speed without ever being capable to articulate what it means or why it can’t save them on the average against the Big Ten for the past 3 years, hiding behind “parity” as an excuse for glorified mediocrity, and propagating “excitement” as a means to hide the fact their conference has one good fight song (Rocky Top) and one legit top tier stadium (Tiger Stadium, LSU) make them completely intolerable. They’re much more irritating than Penn State fans at their very worst since, in fairness to the Western Pennsylvania faithful, Nittany Lions fans are still capable of a comprehensible English.
As for us Buckeyes, damn straight we’re obnoxious. It’s what we do best and we can do so with confidence since our athletics department is basically the Evil Empire of the Big Ten.
You are totally right Wil, i cant believe i had been living such a dark ignorant life until this point. thank you for showing me the error of my ways, i think i will now move to alabama, buy a life’s supply of overalls, and learn to play the whiskey jug.
I lived in Tennessee (Knoxville) for two years while attending seminary, and I went to seven Tennessee home games over those two seasons. I also visited six SEC stadiums – Florida’s, South Carolina’s, Alabama’s, LSU’s, Auburn’s and Georgia’s. I choose not to include Vanderbilt or Kentucky since they possess stadiums or programs scarcely worthy of the name.
SEC fans are awful. Only Cincinnati Bungles fans are worse. They understand almost nothing about the intricacies of the game, almost nothing about the rules of the game and nearly nothing about any football history outside the confines of their own conference. They are short-sighted, narrow-minded and droll.
I’m a Southerner by birth, so this is not a gripe about Southern society in general. Go to a baseball game in the South, and you’ll have a great time. Basketball’s not bad there, either. But Gawd help you if you’re a visiting fan in one of their stadiums. They act like barbarians.
We have fans like that in the Big T(elev)en – Wisconsin and PSU come immediately to mind – but I’ve never experienced a wide breadth of lunacy like I did in the SEC.
(I’ve just noticed that I’ve used a few words with more than two syllables in them. That might inhibit replies from knuckle-dragging SEC fans.)
“Winning is everything if you want to be elite”
I’m not sure where I heard that or who it came from, but I love it.
let’s not forget ESPiN’s fan poll that ran several weeks ago asking ‘who’s to blame if Ohio State BACK’s into the BCS NC game?’
think i sent you a screen cap of that one – can’t remember?!
Who cares.
I hate myself.
