Buckeyes Agree To New Deal With Nike
The Athletic Department announced the completion of a new 7 year deal with Nike late yesterday. The press release states Nike will remain the the exclusive provider of footwear and apparel for all 36 varsity sports. In total, that amounts to $2.34 million per year and over $16 mil of product over the length of the deal. OSU will also receive over $8 mil for brand exclusivity. The stated total value of the deal is $26.1 mil not including team bonuses or licensing revenues.
“Nike can take back $11,880 for each shoe, up to a maximum of $59,400. And if it happens another time, the penalty is $23,760 per shoe”
Insane but I guess if your paying tOSU that much money, your logo better be visible all the time.
Puts a bit of pressue on the trainers. I make plenty of mistakes on the job, but I can’t remember any 50k mistakes. I wonder if Adidas is trying to figure out why the hell they signed UM. Although half the people wearing that gear are crips and not fans.
I think Michigan is going to end up with Russell Athletics before too long.
