The Buckeyes and Huskies locked horns again this afternoon in a WCHA battle. This time Ohio State managed to contain Molly Illikainen. The red hot scorer registered just a single assist. Unfortunately they weren’t quite as successful with the rest of the Huskies.

St. Cloud controlled much of the opening period. The Huskies outshot OSU 10-8. Rookie Julia Tylke and junior Alexandra Makaric each netted power play goals.

Special teams would turn out to be a big factor in the game. The Buckeyes came out firing in the second period. They peppered St. Cloud goalie Katie Fitzgerald with 15 shots. OSU’s Cara Zubko nicked the netminder with a power play goal of her own, putting the Scarlet and Gray on the board.

The Huskies nipped the Buckeye comeback in the bud, though. Alyssa Erickson scored yet another man-advantage goal and Brittney Anderson put the game out of OSU’s reach midway through the third frame.

Stacy Danczak patrolled the net for Ohio State. The senior goalie stopped 23 shots in her first start since mid-October. At the other end of the ice St. Cloud’s Fitzgerald made 33 saves.

The Huskies won the special teams battle by a wide margin. They converted three of their five chances. The Buckeyes went 1-for-5.

Ohio State regroups now and heads East. The Bucks play in the Windjammer Tournament next weekend. They’ll face Vermont on Saturday and Boston University on Sunday.
