Chris Olave and Thayer Munford are getting trees in Buckeye Grove.

The two Ohio State captains were both named Wednesday as first-team All-Americans by the American Football Coaches Association, becoming the fourth and fifth Buckeyes to earn first-team All-American honors from at least one major national organization this year.

They join Garrett Wilson and Nicholas Petit-Frere, who were both named first-team All-Americans by the Football Writers Association of America, and Noah Ruggles, who received first-team All-American honors from ESPN, as Buckeyes who are now in line to be immortalized with trees planted in their honor outside Ohio Stadium.

Olave receives the honor after catching 65 passes for 936 yards and 13 touchdowns for Ohio State during the regular season, breaking the Buckeyes’ school record for career touchdown receptions in the process.

Munford earns first-team All-American honors after his fourth season starting on Ohio State’s offensive line, in which he primarily played left guard but also occasionally moved back to left tackle, the position he started at for the Buckeyes for the previous three seasons.

Ruggles, who has made all but one of the 19 field goals he’s attempted for the Buckeyes this season, also earned second-team All-Americans from the AFCA.
