“We had a bad day and we had it against a team that's kind of hitting its stride.”

Greg Schiano summed things up well after his team fed mistakes to an Ohio State buzzsaw Saturday afternoon in Rutgers.

“I think Ohio State played really well,” a frank Schiano said in his postgame. “I think it's always easy to say we didn't do this and we didn't do that. They did some good things. And we played about as poorly as we've played since I can remember. Two things – that's what you get.”

“It's early still. I know what I saw today and then I'll watch the video and see what I see off of that. It always starts with introspection and then from there you move forward. Like I said, we had a bad day and they had a really good day.”

Asked about the fake punt that Ohio State stuffed on Rutgers' first possession, Schiano said

“The fake punt… I thought we had an opportunity all week in studying it. Didn't go exactly the way we thought, obviously, but that's not one I sit there and say that's the game-changer. There are many ways you can go down 7-0. The fake punt didn't run all those yards untouched, either.”

“They have those wideouts and they know they're really good. When they get the ball in their hands, they're not only good receivers, they're extremely talented ball carriers and they're really fast.”– Greg Schiano

Was it Ohio State's scheme or what?

“No, I don't think that,” Schiano said. “I think it's the guys that were doing it, right? Early in the year, No. 32, he was getting touches, but so was everybody else. When I say they were finding their stride, they figured out this is their guy. He's pretty darn good.

“They have those wideouts and they know they're really good. We were a couple of inches from a few plays, but it doesn't matter. When they get the ball in their hands, they're not only good receivers, they're extremely talented ball carriers and they're really fast.”

Schiano's Scarlet Knights will need to regroup quickly as they welcome No. 17 Michigan State, 42-16 winners against Western Kentucky Saturday, for homecoming next weekend.
