If you want to be at the Superdome to watch Ohio State play Clemson in the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1, get ready to open up your bank account.

For the first time all year, Ohio State will play in front of some members of the general public in its College Football Playoff semifinal game on Jan. 1, but it won't be many.

With attendance for the Sugar Bowl limited to 3,000 fans by the city of New Orleans due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, tickets for the Sugar Bowl are officially sold out. Most tickets for the game will be allotted to each team's players and coaches for their family members and/or guests to be able to attend the game.

That said, there are a limited number of tickets available for purchase on the secondary resale market. But they're not cheap. As of Sunday evening, the cheapest tickets available for the game on StubHub were $1,152 each.

Had Ohio State and Clemson been sent to play in the other College Football Playoff semifinal in Dallas as many expected, there would have been more opportunities for Ohio State fans to attend, as AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, will be permitted to host 16,000 fans for that game. That's actually the reason why Alabama and Notre Dame will be playing in Dallas instead of New Orleans, though, as the committee felt Alabama should get the opportunity to play in front of more fans as the No. 1 seed.

“Taking everything else into consideration, the committee believed that it gave the opportunity for Alabama families and fans to have more tickets available, and we decided that that was an advantage that Alabama deserved,” College Football Playoff selection committee chairman Gary Barta said Sunday.

The College Football Playoff semifinal at the Sugar Bowl is set for an 8:45 p.m. kickoff on Jan. 1, and will be televised on ESPN for those watching the game from home.
