Ohio State has lost a member of its 2025 recruiting class.

Five-star 2025 cornerback Jontae Gilbert announced his decommitment from the Buckeyes on Saturday, leaving four-star quarterback Tavien St. Clair as the lone member of OSU's 2025 cycle at the moment.

“First off I want to thank God for all of the blessings he has been sending my way. I want to thank my family, friends, and coaches for supporting me through my decision," Gilbert told On3 of his decommitment. "This was a very hard decision to make but after long talks with my family and my coaches I now want to say I am opening back up my recruiting and decommit from Ohio State. Respect my decision. Thank you Buckeye Nation for everything and to all the Ohio State coaching staff.”

Gilbert was the first commitment of OSU's 2025 recruiting class when he originally gave the Buckeyes his verbal exactly one year ago today on July 29, 2022.

“I just felt like it’s a place I could play at in the near future,” Gilbert said a day later of why he committed to the Buckeyes.

Since his commitment, Gilbert has taken multiple visits to other schools, including South Carolina, Georgia, Auburn, Tennessee, North Carolina State, Georgia Tech, Texas A&M and others.

With Gilbert re-opening his recruitment, OSU will go back to the drawing board at cornerback in the 2025 class. Five-star cornerback Devin Sanchez is likely the No. 1 target on OSU's board, and the Texas cornerback has also publicly said OSU is his leader at the moment, though Alabama isn't far behind.
