Four-star 2024 Tennessee linebacker Edwin Spillman has already visited Ohio State twice. He made the trek to Columbus last summer to camp with the Buckeyes, an experience that led to Spillman receiving an offer. Spillman also visited Ohio State last September for the Akron game.

He will take a third visit to Columbus this weekend for OSU’s spring game with his family, but this visit will be different from the others. Spillman will have his first chance to interact with OSU’s new defensive coaching staff in person.

“I’m really excited to just go up and meet the new defensive coaching staff,” Spillman told Eleven Warriors. “I’m excited to meet everybody and start building relationships again.”

Spillman said he’s spoken with Ohio State senior advisor and analyst Matt Guerrieri ahead of his visit, but has not spoken with Jim Knowles yet to this point.

“I’m really excited to talk to coach Knowles and see what type of man he is,” Spillman said. “It’s going to be a fun visit and a fun experience.”

Spillman is ranked as the 102nd-best prospect and the 10th-best linebacker in the 2024 cycle, according to 247Sports’ composite rankings. He has 12 Division I offers thus far.

Other schools the 6-foot-2, 221-pound linebacker has visited this spring include Michigan and Tennessee. He says he hasn’t yet begun narrowing down his list of schools and is still taking the recruiting process day-by-day.

Reed lands offer

It’s no secret Ohio State has a major need for true offensive tackles in its 2023 recruiting class. The Buckeyes made an offer to another prospect fitting that bill. While visiting Ohio State on Wednesday, four-star Texas offensive tackle Ian Reed landed an OSU offer.

Reed is ranked as the 330th-best prospect and the 25th-rated offensive tackle in the 2023 recruiting class. His 23 Division I offers thus far include Texas, Texas A&M, Alabama, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Arkansas and Clemson.

While Reed currently resides in Texas, he lived in Illinois early in his life and grew up watching Ohio State games. Reed says he wouldn’t have considered himself an OSU fan growing up, but he has plenty of his family members that were, including some that still live in Ohio today.

Reed told Eleven Warriors in late March that he had conversations with offensive line coach Justin Frye and offensive line graduate assistant Mike Sollenne about OSU.

“It would be amazing,” Reed said then of potentially getting an OSU offer. “Just the whole culture and pedigree that Ohio State plays with is awesome and so are the fans.”

Reed’s current plan is to narrow his list of schools down before the start of his senior season, then pick a college sometime near the December signing period.

Social media reaction to Fletcher’s commitment

In case you missed it Tuesday, Ohio State added a seventh member to its 2023 recruiting class with the commitment of four-star running back Mark Fletcher, a bruising running back from Florida.

After the commitment, various reactions poured in on social media from members of Ohio State’s football staff, Fletcher’s South Florida Express teammates, other 2023 Ohio State commits and another running back the Buckeyes have their sights on, 2023 five-star Florida running back Richard Young.
