It came a few weeks sooner than expected, but the end result wasn’t surprising.

With Ohio State stumbling through Big Ten play for the second year in a row, it seemed inevitable that Chris Holtmann would be fired as OSU’s men’s basketball coach at the end of the season. With six regular-season games remaining, Gene Smith decided he didn’t need to see any more on Wednesday, firing Holtmann just hours after the Buckeyes’ 62-54 loss to Wisconsin.
