Havent done one in a bit, there is a lot less info around this year with the lack of scouting stuff because of Covid. Ill start with a position outlook then a draft sim.

  • QB-Burrow, backup doesnt matter. The Bengals cant spend alot of money so they shouldnt spend it on a abck up QB.
  • RB-Mixon and Gio are back as a good 1+2 punch. May be the last year of Gio in Cincy. They wont do anything special at RB3.
  • WR-AJ Green and John Ross wont be resigned. There is a massive lack of depth behind Tee Higgins and Tyler Boyd. Boyd+Higgins are one of the better wide receiver duos in the NFL but both lack high end speed. The other outside receiver is a place that needs addressed.
  • TE-Drew Sample and Uzomah are a solid pair. While it would be nice to have a better option here they are good enough for a bad team to not need to spend resources here
  • OL-A lot in flux here. Jonah Williams and Trey Hopkins are recovering from serious injuries. The Bengals became the laughing stock of the league for allowing Burrow to play behind the worst line in football. At a minimum 2 new starters are needed here. MJ is terrible at LG and Bobby Hart is terrible at RT. Jonah Williams is a good LT and Hopkins is an average(before serious injury) center. Spain looks good to us but was cut by the Bills, so is he actually good?
  • EDGE-Hubbard is back and the Bengals have let Lawson know they will tag him if they cant agree to a long term deal. Either way Lawson will be back for next year. Another pass rusher could be used.
  • DT-Geno Atkins will very likely be cut and DJ Reader will be back from injury. A new DT is needed for sure to play 3T
  • LB-Super young group last year that should take a step forward this year. Even as rookies their athleticism shined.
  • CB-Rumor is they are going to let William Jackson walk. The FO/Coaches apparently dont think he is as good as PFF/Fans think he is. Plan seems to be to have Trae Waynes replace WJ3, let Makenzie Alexander stay in the slot and keep Darrius Phillips as CB2. If they are going to use that money elsewhere then this is fine, if they are doing it to be cheap then this is a huge problem.
  • S-Vonn Bell and Jessie Bates are a great duo.

Draft Needs-OT/IOL/WR/DT/CB(?)

  1. Penei Sewell OT Oregon-The way things are developing it seems the Bengals pick will be decided for them by the Dolphins. The Jags will go TLaw, the Jets will take Zach Wilson, and the Falcons will take Justin Fields. The Dolphins are deciding between Sewell or Jamarr Chase. The Dolphins need to help out Tua and have to pick between creating a monster OL or getting the best WR prospect in a few years. The Bengals will take whichever player they dont. This scenario they get Sewell. Jonah Williams can either move to RT or inside and Sewell will man LT for 10 years as the best OT in football. OL solved. The Bengals may be happier if they can land Jamarr Chase. Nobody else worth considering than those two.
  2. Wyatt Davis IOL OSU-This seems crazy but this is a very realistic scenario. Davis is very good but wasnt quite dominant enough this year to be a first round lock. This is also a fantastic OL draft that will push everybody down. This is a dream scenario for the Bengals, getting both Sewell and a high talent IOL like Davis. Davis and Sewell will be in All-Pro contention for a decade. Those two and Williams create and very good OL core.  Other players considered-None, there are alot of good OL here but Davis is the best guard. Lots of good LBs, TEs, and RBs here as well but those arent needs
  3. Tommy Togiai-I generally try to limit myself to take 1 Buckeye in these but this simply made too much sense. This is a perfect fit and a likely draft position for Togiai. The Bengals need help at DT and 5Tech. Togiai can do both of these things. He is a terrific run stopper and at 6'2" 300 can play anwyehere on the line. His downside is he has never really showed he has the tools to be a good pass rusher, he isnt bad but he isnt good. You can start him as an undersized but athletic NT, a run stuffing 3T, or a 5T who can eat up two blockers. Other players: Chazz Surat(LB NC) is really good but LB is in a good place, Josh Myers at IOL and James Hudson at OT are available, and project corners like Tyson Campbell and Ifeati Melifonwu. The floor and positional value of Togiai is too much to pass up.
  4. Benjamin St.Juste- A 6'3" corner from Minnesota, honestly at this point I am unsure of most of the names here or if Juste is worth it. Idea with him is he has good athletic traits and with time to develop could be the next man up at corner. Having a big guy like him with Bates behind him is a good pairing.
