Volume 9 brings 6 new players to the Big Ten.
Start of the Season Slows Down Commitments
Only six players committed to five Big Ten schools in September. Michigan State brought in the biggest haul with two verbals on the 29th. The other programs adding to their class were: Illinois, Michigan, Ohio State and Purdue.
Lovie Loses a Quarterback
The Illini added 3★ dual-threat quarterback MJ Rivers on September 11th. That move prompted Lovie Smith and his staff to rescind their offer to commit Cordell Littlejohn. Communication must have been lacking because Littlejohn took to Twitter and let the Twitterverse know that it was not his choice to leave Illinois.
Rivers (.839) has a higher rating than Littlejohn (.817) and joins dual-threat QB Coran Taylor as the second quarterback in the Illini's 2018 class.
— Cordel Littlejohn (@CordiZZle_22_) September 27, 2017
King Of The Mountain
It's good to be on top. Meyer and the Buckeyes' 2018 recruiting class has increased it lead to just over 26.5-points on second place Penn State. What makes this more impressive is that the Buckeyes have five fewer commits than Franklin and their "rivals" from the Pennsylvania.
On the national front, Texas is still the team just behind the Buckeyes. The Longhorns and Ohio State both have 18 commits, but Meyer has a 19.49 point lead over Herman.
Where is Alabama? Nick Saban's class is up to 25th and has 11 players. The Tide's average commit has a .910 average, the Buckeyes' average is .951.

The 2018 Composite Team Rankings as of 9/1/2017 according to 247
For the fourth straight update, Ohio State remains the top team in the Big Ten. The Bucks are comfortably in the lead and were able to widen the gap on Penn State. The races to watch are for second through fourth and the bottom four spots.
Two Up, Three Down
For the second straight cycle, the top four spots stayed steady, while the middle and bottom had some movement. The biggest gain was made by Michigan State.
Mark Dantonio added an OT and RB on Friday and those players bumped his 2018 class up 11.94 points and up two spots to fifth. The commits were 4★ offensive tackle James Ohonba and 3★ RB Elijah Collins.
Ohanba is 6'4", 345 pound man child from Georgia. It will be interesting to see if he has the quick feet to move that large of a frame at the tackle position.
The other team moving up the chart was Purdue. The Boilermakers added OLB Evander Craft. He is a JUCO player at the College of DuPage and ranked as the best junior college outside linebacker in the nation. Craft has a rating of .860.
Wisconsin, Minnesota and Indiana all lost a spot. The Badgers and Gophers were leapfrogged by Michigan State and the Boilermakers bounced the Hoosiers. Expect these spots to be fluid as we get closer to February.
Conference Average Line
There is still a division between the haves and have nots in the Big Ten. The conference average line should sit just after the seventh place team. However, the average is still located behind fourth place Maryland. This indicates a big gap between the four top schools and the rest of the conference.
Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan and Maryland are the only teams north of 200 points. Michigan State is close to the conference average, but the rest have work to do. It's time for Nebraska and Wisconsin to step up. The Cornhuskers appear to have the harder road as they struggle on the field.

B1G Stars Breakdown
Ohio State and Penn State remain the only teams in the conference to have 5★ commits. The Buckeyes have four and the Nittany Lions have one.
Taron Vincent, Brenton Cox Jeremy Ruckert and Jaelen Gill are Ohio State's 5★ players. Justin Shorter is Penn State's five star player.
Rivals on the Move
Ohio State and Michigan were the only teams to climb the Stars Chart this month. The Buckeyes went from seventh to sixth and the Wolverines climbed up from 12th to 11th. Wisconsin and Illinois were the teams to fall.
Star Gazing
Two players had their star rating change. Purdue's OT Eric Miller was bumped up 25 points and went from a 2★ to a 3★ this cycle.
Indiana's OLB Micah McFadden went the opposite direction. He lost 16 points and dropped down to a 2★ rating.
96 percent of the Big Ten's commits are 4★ and 3★ players. To put Ohio State's recruiting in perspective, 24 percent of the conference's 4 star commits and 80 percent of the 5 star players are Buckeyes.

Not much changed with the top players committed in the Big Ten. In fact, all of the players remained the same. The only difference is that Nebraska's center, Will Farniok fell from 19th at his position to 20th and WDE Tyler Baylor of Maryland dropped from 21st to 22nd.
At the end of September, 11 Ohio State commits are the highest rated players at there position in the conference. If you look at the players Urban Meyer has offered, the Buckeyes could have the best player at every position except for pro-style quarterback.
The Big Ten East still owns 15 of the 18 positions. Nebraska is the only team in the Big Ten West with players on the board. Will a team add a fullback this cycle?

*Kickers, punters and long snappers are not included in player averages.
For the third straight month, Nebraska is in a new position. This time, the Wolverines passed the Cornhuskers and dropped the Big Red to fourth.
The other action happened at the bottom of the conference. Minnesota passed Indiana and Illinois jumped Rutgers. With those of you with strong memories, you'll remember that the opposite happened last month.
Meyer and the Buckeyes continue to have a massive lead over the rest of the conference. Ohio State had its player average rating decrease, but had its lead over Penn State increase as the Nittany Lions lost more points. With more 5★ and 4★ players on the horizon, the 2018 Ohio State recruiting class could be one for the ages.
The Big Ten had seven schools improve their average player ranking, six programs had a loss and one team stayed the same.
The only school to remain unchanged was Rutgers.
Which teams do you think will rise and fall over the next month?
