Ohio State, Alabama, Florida State, USC, LSU and so on...These are the schools you see every year competing for the top recruiting classes. Even with Ohio State always hovering in the top 5, they are the only powerhouse school that has not landed a top 5 ranked recruit in the last 5 years (per 24/7). They have actually only had two top 5 recruits in the last 10 years with Spence in 2012 and Pryor in 2008. You can even expand the results to include top 10 ranked players and they've only had three, two of which aren't even on campus yet, Okudah (7) Young (8). This just adds to how impressive the recent NFL draft success has been and shows that players are truly being developed here.
Team | Top 10 | Top 5 |
---|---|---|
Ohio State | 3 | 0 |
Alabama | 7 | 4 |
Florida State | 6 | 3 |
Auburn | 3 | 2 |
USC | 3 | 2 |
Notre Dame | 1 | 1 |
Ole Miss | 4 | 4 |
LSU | 3 | 1 |
TTUN | 2 | 2 |
Texas A&M | 3 | 1 |
Florida | 3 | 2 |
Georgia | 2 | 2 |
We all know it's not always about the ranking or the stars, but looking through the top 5's of each year, the majority of the players turned out to be elite players. For example, 2014 top five included Leonard Fournette, Myles Garrett, Jabrill Peppers, Cam Robinson, and Da'shawn Hand. Ohio State's top ranked recruit that year was McMillan who was 22nd. They have certainly tried for top talent, it has just not worked out and they have shown they are content with players that are the right fit and want to be here over top talent that has to be catered to.
P.S. We see you Ole Miss, trying to sneak four top 5 recruits in without anybody raising an eyebrow
