What If?
Saw an interesting interview with Nick Saban tonight; very wide ranging on topics such the overall state of college football, what he sees as the future of college football, NIL, college sports unionization, the student athlete and even a dip into politics.
In 1999, the coaches in the Big Ten were, in the order of their conference finish, Barry Alvarez, Lloyd Carr, Joe Paterno, Nick Saban (9-2), Glen Mason, Ron Turner, Joe Tiller, John Cooper (6-6), Cam Cameron, Randy Walker and Kirk Ferentz (his first year). Nick Saban's MSU record was 34-24-1, and in '99, MSU was ranked as high as fifth - and then he moved on to LSU in 2000, and his first NC in 2003.
But what if he had stayed? Was the '99 season, in which MSU beat ND, UM, PSU & OSU, Saban's MSU floor, or his ceiling?
