Painful rewatch but I thought the playcalls were designed to utilize each QB's strengths and mitigate Mizzou's aggressive rush, with terrible execution by OL and blocking TEs compounded by inexperienced QB play. I like LK's game and we'll need significant OL/TE improvement next year. This is first half only, have not looked at LK in second half.

Looking back, losing Wypler and Dawand to NFL was insurmountable. Also think Stover's knee bothered him more than we know, and Gee Scott is really not a very good blocker. If Jelani can block he should play a ton next year.

Series # Brown Keinholz
1 1/10 – LBs shift to follow Trey’s motion, probably Brown supposed to keep and run left with the pulling G and T. Instead Trey gets the handoff with 4 defenders vs. 2 blockers. QB -1

2/12 – Fryar beat on speed rush, Brown has to rush the screen pass. OL -1

3/12 – OL misses stunt who comes up the middle and flushes Brown, who scrambles and cannot put throw on Egbuka who has man beat down sideline. QB -2, OL -2.

1/10 – Jones gets beat which is too bad, this would have been a nice run up the middle. OL -7

2/9 – this is a mistake by Simmons. Buka motions across to run block left and goes straight to 2nd level. Instead of picking up the edge rusher, Simmons double teams the guy that Jackson is already blocking. OL -8

3/11 – from the 3 yard line, I don’t feel bad about the conservative playcall on LK's first series of the game. Trey picks up 6.

2 1/10 – Trey up middle for 3

2/7 – pass to Buka for 7

1/10 – pass to Buka for 8

2/2 – Trey run right for 14

1/10 – looks like wide zone to the field, Jackson seals backside pursuer, but Simmons moves to second level and goes right past the LB who makes the play, Gee cannot block the LB setting the edge either. OL -3

2/11 – false start, OL -4

2/16 – screen to Buka, Gee cannot block the LB who makes the play. OL -5

3/15 – false start, OL -6

3/20 – this looks like a run all the way against 3 man rush and 1 LB – so why not hand it to Trey who has all the blockers? Instead Brown keeps and is now 1 on 1 vs. the DE. Could have tossed to Stover with receivers blocking downfield, but Brown just keeps and runs out of bounds for no gain. Failed zone read (?), the DE didn’t crash down so QB should have handed off. QB -3

1/10 – jet sweep to right, but somehow the DE on that side is unblocked and he tracks X down from behind. Either Stover or Gee has to block that guy. OL -9

2/6 – Jackson pulls on pass play, Jones cannot pick up the rusher, LK gets hurried, prob should have been holding as well. OL -10

3/6 – QB keeper to boundary, LK gets 1 v 1 with DB, but Stover misses block which takes away any cutback lane. LK possibly still could have cut back to use pulling Jackson as a blocker but he decided to take on the DB. Think LK needs to make a move to go around that guy, maybe he would have if Stover had gotten a body on the trailing defender. OL -11

3 1/10 – Trey run right for 20

1/10 – Trey run right for 7

2/3 – this is supposed to be a screen pass left, this time to Hayden. It’s well blocked and this would have been a big play. But Brown fails to see the LB come up on the right to rush which results in a sack. Why did Brown opt out of the screen? That’s two mistakes on this play, and also got him a sprained ankle. QB -4

3/7 – Brown rushes throw to Tate, who almost loses his head to gain 5. Another second and he could have thrown to X on the sideline or Buka deep middle in front of safety. Had time but didn’t let the play develop. QB -5

1/10 –Vimahi gets beat and Trey goes down in the backfield. Stover loses the DE on that side. OL -12

2/13 – Vimahi beat again, Trey down in backfield again. Play action with rollout to the field RPO would have been a good call here. OL -13

3/16 – from 1 yard line QB sneak but Mizzou personal foul bails us out.

1/10 – Direct snap to X for 18

1/10 – LK bounces one to Tate, would have been another first. QB -1

2/10 – LK doesn’t pick up the blitzing LB, he has Egbuka as the release valve on the screen but instead throws it away. QB -2

3/10 – Ballard 1 v 1 down the sideline, should have caught it. Maybe slightly underthrown but on target. Ballard needs to go up and get that ball.
