The Seahawks drafted Smith in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL draft, but he spent his entire rookie season on injured reserve with a hip injury. He made his NFL regular-season debut against the Detroit Lions on Sunday, recording one tackle. Now subject to waivers, Smith can be claimed by any of the NFL’s other 31 teams; if he goes unclaimed, he could return to Seattle’s practice squad or join another team’s practice squad.
